Updayday LED thread

Starting to think that ALL modern led panels are basically decent no matter how cheap. Like you have to go out of your way to make a bad one at this point. I'm vegging with $30 dollar panels bought from the deals thread here and it's sick how well they work.

Don’t get it twisted though. If I had the money in my budget I would buy a better light as I’m sure the penetration etc is better. I’m sure diode type and quality makes a huge difference too. But you can’t beat the price we paid for this thing!!

I think once someone comes up with a great combo of diodes to cover the frequencies needed effectively, it becomes easy for lots of manufacturers to follow that paradigm...but I think there's variance in the details, so how the diodes are dispersed, spaced and placed on the bars/panels and all that...and I think you can probably suss out the better from the less good with the use of a decent PAR meter and looking at hot/dark spots in your grow area.

I agree with you both. But not too long ago there was an abundance of objectively bad lights with terrible spectra and heat management and that era seems to have passed. When I first bought led panels 9 or 10 years ago full spectrum panels were super expensive compared to blurples which also weren't cheap. Beginners then were using arrays of cfls to try to do complete grows with foreseeable results. I still use my a51 panels for supplemental lighting. My main light is currently spiderfarmer and any new fixtures would probably be hlg or similar. I just think these new cheap lights are great opportunities for new growers on a budget.

Yeah I didn’t have $1000 in my budget for a light. I’m certainly never going back to HPS. So cheap LEDs for me for now. I could have had a free mars hydro light but I passed on it. I’d rather buy my own

I remember 2.5 years ago when I got my cheap Shenzen strip lights, everyone ridiculed me saying they are cheap garbage. I haven’t seen a crop on this site to compare to yet against them :D
I made sure to bring up the diode thing, there’s a grower here that likes to bombard threads about his diode quality. Last thing I want is 10 pages of him telling me about his Samsung diodes  I know they’re better so let’s save that argument.
