Upgrading to HPS Help?

upgrading from CLF system. needing a few tips on a hps system for 6 plants. any information would be helpful thanks!

I would size the light to your grow space.
Plants can be big or small, grown in a number of different ways.

In general, I would think you are looking at 600W (min). If you can go bigger, all the better!
There is some reference doc out there that offers optimal footprint from various lamps. I remember 400W being best for 2.5 x 2.5' footprint. This is basically my setup, and I am running 2 plants in a scrog. I think this would be too small for 6 plants.

cool yeah i was thinking 600w Or 1,000w. I know im going to go digital HPS i hear they run better, smoother, and have a higher output for lumens. i will have plenty of space.
i just wanna know some good hps lights or set ups that are good price.

How big is your space? If you got the space, and the $$ for the light/reflector/fans, then go for the 1000W!

I got a lumatek ballast, hydrofarm reflector, ushio lamp, and a Can fan & filter. Look on craigslist, check ebay, amazon - see if you can get some good stuff at a good price.

One thing to keep in mind is the extra heat.
I just upgraded to a 1000w and the temps are
tough to regulate without an air cooled reflector
and a fan.

def gonna roll with the air cooled. but 1,000 might be a lil too much $$ for me. i think ill just use a 600w for the moment.

It works but it comes with a lot of bullshit... you could just buy the ballast and get a cooltube with a large reflector similar to this for $63 shipped (if in U.S.) Then when you get more money, you can get another 600w or 400w ballast, throw another mogul in the cooltube and have 1,000w of dual mh/hps. Run 400w mh for veg and both for flower.
