I did the upside thing one year. From the reading I did, it was designed to give you more growing space and keep the plants off the ground where most of the pests are believed to be. In practice, most of the pests I encounter were the flying kind, and hanging the plants didn't do much. The plants still reach towards the light. Watering became more complicated. And supporting a 5-7 gallon container filled with wet soil is more hassle then it's worth.
What worked better for me was a simple square foot garden and planting cannabis next to carrots and legumes.
