my 1 sativa is about 10 days away from harvest and i noticed a piece of bud with this mold. it was like a 3G nug, so i chopped her. i read all about "botrytis" in jorge cervantes book. i cleaned my closet out. i dont have any time or money for a spray solution. i also have no idea what or how to control my humidity. ( jorge says fungas/mold grows poorly at 40-50% humid ) my plant did great for 5 months up until now right befor harvest! now heres the worst part !! i thought i got rid of the problem by removing the effected flower but i guess it was touching the bottom of my main cola and now i see another mold spot starting at bottom of cola! what should i do here!? i dont want this to spread into my cola or spread onto my other 2 plants. please help. much appreciated :leaf:

the only real answer is a de-humidifier, A spray is just going to leave residues and chemicals on your buds, decreasing smoking pleasure.

How you handle the fungus can "minimize" the spreading of it. place a baggie over your buds, get it tight around the stalk of the-to-be-pruned-bud, and cut just under the bag, that way any spores do not get blown into circulation. Determine where your air flow is spread, and if you have intake/exhaust, you should try to clean them out/sterilize the surfaces.

if worst comes to worst, plan for an early harevst, and just make sure, you keep clean and dry airflow around the buds as they dry, because botrytis does not stop in the dark!

hey man thanks for the reply. im growing 3 plants in a 2.5' x 4.5' x 8' closet. 400watt hps. no intake/outake. no overheating. have a good fan blowing air into closet... the problem is my main cola is at least 10 inches tall and 5 or 6 inches thick. and the grey mold ( botrytis ) spot is starting at the bottom of the cola on the near the stem. i can only see this because i removed the other infected flower. i would literally have to rip apart my cola to find out if its spreading. any suggestions?

use a clean, sterile needle or other thin metal "prod" to move your flowers around. To be honest, bud mold tends to spreads rather quickly in my experience, and may already be creeping all along your kola =/

thanks il give it a try. the main cola is the most undeveloped flower(s) on the plant, lower buds will be ready first. i have a question tho. the flower i chopped with the mold (yesterday morning)... i kept the unefected portion in my kitchen cabnet. still not fully dry and doesnt smoke properly. but i smoked a couple bong hits and im pleased with the buzz from only 2 hits. what im saying is. i dont mind harvesting my main cola early. if it means compleatly stopping it from spreading to my other 2 plants or destroying this one. also if i properly dry/cure my bud will it be more potent? i had to hold the lighter to the bowl forever to get smoke... what do you think?

harvesting early, is always better than tossing away a moldy kola.

I've reluctantly had to harvest early on a few occasions, and, It is fine. sure, your bud will not be AS good as it should be, but you saved it from the flame (so to speak) and you have something to give you a buzz til you can get rid of the whole mold/humidity issue.

clip away my bro'

And one time I smoked a few bong rips of some bud before I realized it had mold on it, and it kind of made me hallucinate wildly. So...idk, a little mold here and there might spice up your smoking exp. ;]
