According to whom? There are millions of muslims around the world. If they were all practicing the extremist version, the world would be a blood bath. Just because a few idiotic extremists decide to twist the Koran to their own agenda (sound familiar?) doesn't mean it blankets all of Islam. There are extremist Christian sects in India and elsewhere that are killing Muslims and Hindus if they don't convert. They also follow the Bible literally. Does this mean all of Christianity is doing the same?

Then Nuns and Priests need to stop wearing their habits. Mormons need to stop wearing garments (holy underwear). Hassidic Jews have to shave their beards and cut their hair and stop wearing those stupid fucking hats. Amish need to modernize and wear modern clothing....

For those of you confused, this was an amendment to the Oklahoma Constitution. The exact text on the ballot was:

This measure amends the State Constitution. It changes a section that deals with the courts of this state. It would amend Article 7, Section 1. It makes courts rely on federal and state law when deciding cases. It forbids courts from considering or using international law. It forbids courts from considering or using Sharia Law. International law is also known as the law of nations. It deals with the conduct of international organizations and independent nations, such as countries, states and tribes. It deals with their relationship with each other. It also deals with some of their relationships with persons.
The law of nations is formed by the general assent of civilized nations. Sources of international law also include international agreements, as well as treaties.
Sharia Law is Islamic law. It is based on two principal sources, the Koran and the teaching of Mohammed.

It was approved 70% to 30%.

Then the muslims basically said "Uh, hey, what's this about? It seems like you are pre emtively targeting us for no reason. There is no valid reason to have implemented this"

And the court agreed and said:

The court finds that defendants have presented no evidence which would show the amendment is justified by any compelling interest or is narrowly tailored.

and basically the law was BS, so it was invalid and doesn't count.

And now a federal court agrees with the earlier court's decision (and this is what the article is about).

Except they do all that to show pride in their religion, wearing a cloak of shame doesn't really mean the same... Not to mention a Jew can Rob a bank In his holy get up and still be identified ..

i'm pretty sure the difference is that if a christian or jewish person wanted to live strictly according to the old testament, and found that it is not completely compatible with modern american law, they wouldn't get to sue over it. it seems like somehow, because they are muslims, they fall under some sort of special minority category that gets to demand special treatment that other religions would never get.

people can go to church and pray how they want. when it comes to living in society no one gives a shit what religion someone is as long as they follow the same laws as everyone else. if christian extremists can't sell their daughter into slavery here than muslims can't have shariah law. it's the only solution that's even remotely fair.

Yes we have a rash of crimes involving burka wearing women. Cloak of shame? It's part of their faith. 90% of muslim women around the world are only required to wear a scarf. Are we going to tell the Jewish faith that women are no longer required to cover their heads while in a synagogue? If you actually talk to a Muslim woman (I have on several occasions) you fill find they take pride in wearing a scarf or burka. It's part of their faith. Just as wearing garments are part of the Mormon faith.
