USDA recalls 8.7 million lbs of meat

Not to mention bison meat is short on fat which equals short on flavor. It has a "gamier" flavor not quite as severe as venison, but enough that many people don't care for it. It's also much more difficult for the average person to cook properly without drying the fuck out of it.

Give me a heavily marbled Angus ribeye from Sam's Club over that shit any day of the week. Their cryopaks of pork babyback ribs are also the stuff of legend among folks in the serious BBQ circles.

bison can be tasty as fuck if you do it right, but they dont dress out as efficiently as beef critter (more hide and bone per pound on the hoof), and they simply refuse to gamely saunter down the slaughter chute for their turn with the bolt gun. you gotta HUNT bison, you really cant farm them.

Bison is much more flavourful than cow, but much leaner. So, you either have to cook it quick on high heat for a short time, bard it, lard it, baste the shit out of it with oil, or mix in lard/fat if doing ground bison burgers.

God damn is it ever good though.

EDIT: There are farm raised bison, but I really have no idea how they slaughter them. Meat from animals that died unexpectedly tastes better anyways. Fear, and the chemical it produces in the body effect the taste of the meat. :(

I'm a member of Cosco as well. Their meat department blows by comparison and their ribeyes can't even approach the quality and flavor of the Angus at Sam's. It's not even close.

Angus is a whole diff ballgame too. Just.... better.

Costco in Canada has rockin' meat, I grab a whole beef tenderloin every time I go.

Is it still Kirkland Brand in the USA?

I lean towards the pork tenderloins.

I've seen various Kirkland products in many retail stores.

You know, when I cut some 2 inch black angus steaks for display...in three days they must be trashed.

We used to give it all to a food bank till they tried to sue us because they claimed
we literally gave them bad meat....not sold mind you.

Now we take it home for pennies on the dollar.
The ghetto store doesn't sell a lot of free range organic chicken or black angus, mostly select grade.
But they make us display it anyways.

Cool.

But Kirkland is owned by Costco... I haven't seen it elsewhere, not to say it isn't. Just curious.

Pork tenderloins are nice, but easy to overcook and dry out. And hell, I just love beef... as my name could imply. lol

For one thing, it oxidises. After 3 days a steak will look likecrap if kept unpackaged, aka, on display. People don't buy brown or grey steaks no matter what it is. They are paying for fresh they want it to look fresh. I ate fillet steak for almost 3 years every other day of the week because of this.

Figures. Why will you not support unions? Unions support people and give individuals a voice. You don't think individuals should have a collective voice?
Private unions maybe, but not public ones. Come to Oregon where the unions are running this fucking state into the ground. See Education, see Ports, see Public Transportation. All are unionized, broke and trudging on like they aren't and there are no Vegas [taxpayer's] spending limits. Ooh...plus we are the only state in the nation with an upcoming Congressional investigation into our healthcare setup, since we haven't enrolled a single person online and the governor [who is a democratic emergency room doctor, heavily supported by unions and a prodigy of the former governor child rapist] just announced it won't happen by March 30th. I wish I could make all that up......

Not a republican, not a democrat, just a human, and that's the way I see it.

On another note: Diet for a New America by John Robbins. Good read. Didn't turn me into a hardcore vegan by any means, is bacon vegan? But it is damn good read about the history of the meat and animal food industries. Dude, was the heir to Baskin Robbins and he didn't want it, because of the animal practices. Fairly interesting to some I suppose.

I worked for people who took unsold beef and threw it into grinds.
Against policy, but good for bottom line.

Company policy was three days = trash....even if I split them and they're perfect inside.
we grilled some, company didn't care long as they were offered up as samples to customers too.
Technicalities of company policy.

Got to bring home all kinds of good shit that was required to be on display that simply did not sell.

Individuals are voiceless in the collective.
Non bargaining position: my production is 300% yet my pay will never increase above the collective bargain.
What happened to my voice? Set aside for others.

And don't forget help to create inflation.

I find it strange that you say it gives individuals a voice and then go on to say it's giving someone else the ability to speak for said individual in a manner that attempts to make everyone happy, which will in it's nature mean some people are not getting to speak for what they want, but rather what is spoken is just a compromise between all of the individuals desires.
