Using rockwool in a non-hydro setup

Ok so I wanted to see what everyoine thought about this style of grow:

From clone
In rockwool (only)
Watered manually
Fed GH 3-part, plus floralicious and superthrive
under CFLs at first, then 1000 MH (possibly only 1000 HPS) , then flowered under hps

...i know rockwool is typically used in hydroponics, but I want to feed them manually to avoid complications with electricity outages and relying on pumps instead of myself... anyone ever try/hear of manually fed rockwool grows? thanks

I've got a plant right now that was feed by hand by it's previous owner (in rockwool and hydroton)...... it seemed to be doing just fine when I got it.
but I wouldn't recommend doing that, you cannot be as consistent as a pump on a timer....

why not rapid rooters? RW would work
yeah, but aren't rapid rooters plugs only? you couldn't get loose rapid rooter material for the rest of the medium could you? im thinking about using rockwool as the sole medium, just like greenhouse seed co. does... at least i think they do

but is growing in a non-nutritive soilless medium and manually feeding/watering the plant agood idea? I would like to think so, but I just want some opinions..tthanks

I cannot for the life of me fnd one thing other then initial cost that would be good about trying to do it by hand.Make a diy flood and drain its cheap. If power outtages are a real concern put a UPS backup on the pump. I'm not one to kill a dream , but why???

Good Luck

I'm doing a water by hand (feed to waste)rockwool setup. And I'm not really happy with results. At first I thought it would be less of a hassle( it is)and have less of a pest problem. ( I have either tiny spider mite, fungus nats or fleas. there crawling on the outside of the cubes. Just added lady bugs and I see the ladys already going after them . Hope that works. I think imma do coco/perilite again. I saw better results with coco IMO.
