UV and seedlings?

I can't find any direct references to starting seeds under bulbs with supplemental uv. I'm wondering if anyone here has any direct experience?

I figure in nature they would be exposed to uv from day 1 but I spent a lot of money on these seeds, the Galactic Animal anyway (220 for a 7 pack!), so I want to see if anyone has any first hand exoerince too share. Normally I'd just start under t5's but mine are 220v only which isn't going to be available until some utility work gets done.

I have single ended Solis Tek 4k metal halide. I'm looking to run one in a small tent (clone lab) at 600 with a Solis Tek Digital Matrix ballast.

I start seeds under a 4k 315w cmh in rapid rooters under a dome. just make sure your light is at the top of your area if you are in a tent. so between 5 and 6 feet

I start seeds under compact flouros, 23 watters, one or tow bulbs per seedling untill they can be put under cobs.
IMO uv isnt that important as people say.

Check out the side by side from eye hortilux with their new power veg t5 bulbs and keep in mind that plants all over the world evolved with uva.

The truth is I've been starting seeds for over twenty years. I definitely have the details worked out of my process. I'm just specifically looking for anyone with personal experience (I had to edit this to be clear that I meant personal experience with using UV at early stages).

Which brand of cmh? Or could you post a pic of it's spectrum? I know most cmh will have a good amount of UV but I'd to confirm how much you're working with.

I agree the prices for seeds are a joke but unless you're willing to wait who knows how long for that to change sometimes you just have to deal with it.
I dont pay more than 4 bucks a seed with sensi seeds plus freebies thrown in, 220 bucks sounds like clever marketing to me....

4k growers choice 315
Awesome, thats the one I'm looking at for my greenhouses next year, thanks. After looking at the spectrum from my 6k's mine do put out a lot more UV but they'll be in an air cooled hood so, I think, accounting for the loss from the glass on the hood I think they should be pretty comparable. I'm assuming you're are in an open fixture?

Its an emerging market with prices all over the place. An old school established, and big, company like Sensi can do that. A smaller, newer company will have a different ratio of overhead to revenue. Economy of scale is huge factor.

The norm used to be 200-300 for a pack of seeds from any of the Netherlands breeders. As long as I find some worthy genetics in the pack I'm not too worried about. Especially when consider that after all is accounted for once I've put a cutting from each male and female from the pack in my seeding tent along with a few choice cuttings to make some new crosses my cost won't even be a penny seed.

I agree, plunder their genetics then produce your own seed and clones.

Small companies do not get much attention in this already saturated market.

The best part is that a lot of the best new strains and crosses are coming from breeders that hardly any one has heard of.

I know but its so hard to get anything to stand out, not fade away with the next new strain or achieve public attention.

I guess i'm quite negative but over time one or two new strains have made it big on roLLitUp so theres every chance.

Still the old school stuff is still killing it and as potent and equal in yeilds.

I guess my gripe is that there is waaaaaay too much choice and i have no set point, a grower could bounce from strain to strain with no underlying appreciation. I guess thats why many find one they like and stick with it for a few years even though there are tons of new strains coming out over that time.
