UVB Light to Increase Potency

So I've been doing some research on UVB light and it's affect on trichome development and potency. It seems that people are pretty much in agreement that UVB increases potency.

However, I have not seen much in the way of actual usage and safety. I'm wondering if a reptile light would work. It puts out UVB light.

Another piece of info I have failed to come up with is how many watts and how long to leave the light on.

I realize UVB is destructive in high doses so I've heard of ppl hitting the plants for 20 mins a day and getting results. Still, I would like to know if anyone has done this and if so, can you give some details. Thanks

1/2 half hour or so per at about 1 1/2 foot away from plant wil increase trich production more trich does not ness mean higher thc value

medeoca genetics pot with a lot of trichs not gona be better then smokin genetics with a few trichs my brother will not change calaber of smoke the gravity of the high will not increase it produces a level of light similer to the sun makes the plant produce trichs like a sun screen repeat will not improve potency oh did i tell you it will not improve potency it will no.......

why because i love you and i want you to GET IT

Agreed, it will stimulate I higher trichrome production, in turn potentially meaning more flavor, or smell, etc but the potency is a genetic trait encoded in its dna there is nothing short of genetic modification anyone can do to drastically increase thc content. But its increased my hash yields probably .4 grams an ounce if that helps sale ya at all, I give it 3 hours everyday in half hour incriments, I rigged a switch to my doorframe that shuts the light off when the door opens should I need to do something in there while its on. Fairly cheap and easy just don't expose urself and all should be ok.

Thanks for caring, but I was under the impression that trichomes house THC and the CBDs. Yes, that doesn't mean that the THC content of that resin is high, but it does mean there's more THC than if you hadn't used the UVB. Thus, UVB makes the marijuana more potent. Forgive me if I'm wrong. I'm not trying to be a jerk. I'm just trying to get it right. Here is the beginning of the Cannabis Culture article I cited earlier:

Pot potency

By DMT, photos by Jason King - Tuesday, January 15 2002 Forget big colas and stinky buds: it's all about the resin.
Marijuana is perhaps the only plant in history grown primarily for its trichomes. Whether used for hashish or marijuana the objective is the same: production and harvest of THC-rich trichomes (crystals). Yet often the cultivator loses sight of the real goal of growing this plant. Bud size, density, coloration, flavor and odor are all of little value if they do not produce the euphoric sensations we seek.
Trichomes and resins
Trichomes come in many shapes and sizes and are used by plants for many different purposes. Cannabis uses its trichomes for a variety of purposes, some of which require THC and other cannabinoids to be effective, and others that do not.
The primary goal of any plant is to create and nurture seeds to the point where they will be viable for future growth. Trichomes help prevent seed damage from dessication, insects, animals, light degradation and fungal disease. Perhaps the most successful function of trichomes in the proliferation of cannabis is their attractiveness to humans. What better a creature to protect and spread a genus than the most advanced organism on the planet?
An important thing to remember is that heavy trichome production is not necessarily an indication of a potent plant. Some hemp strains have moderate layers of trichomes yet pack only a headache. In drug strains a dense stand of trichomes is a sign that it could be of high potency, but certainly not a guarantee.
This is because the resins that flow within may or may not hold the THC and other cannabinoids that we are looking for.

Indica varieties often look more heavily crystallized than Sativas, yet typically don't have the same mind-warp capabilities. Even with a known high-THC clone, THC level and cannabinoid ratios may change depending on environmental conditions.
What defines drug strain cannabis is the plant's ability to convert cannabidiol (CBD) or possibly cannabichromene (CBC) into THC.1 If we as growers do not provide the plant with reason to make this conversion it likely will devote its energy elsewhere, to aid in its survival.

:blsmoke:I'm def. looking in to this UVB lighting. Subbed Too Hear More Info. I understand how it would produce more trichs it makes sense. But potency is genetics time and time again! It probably helps produce diff. cannabinoids too, To make it to its potential.

41 did you read what you posted to prove your point

trichome production is not necessarily an indication of a potent plant.

this is a cut and past from your post

Potency is 'sealed in genetically' if you're growing the plant to 100% of it's potential. Based on the topics around this forum, I'd guess about 5% of the posters here are actually capable of doing this. If UVB light helps a grower's plant reach it's full potential, there will be an increase in quality (potency).

I have been using UVB reptile bulbs for about 18 months. I use a timer to turn it on for about 3 hours during the middle part of the day. I have no idea if it increases potency because I have nothing of my own to compare it to. So now I am going to skip the UVB and see what happens.

I have heard some say that UVB is most effective to mature the trichs during late flowering, but personally I don't like couch lock so maybe I will end up not using it. I have noticed that when my friend grows the exact same cuts under super HPS they seem just as potent and resinous as ever.
