Winterizing you mean? Indeed... I've had stuff wax at 105, but I think its strain dependent.

thanks guys for sharing all of your critical experience and input using vacuum purge techniques. I just don't want anything to explode and I think you guys haven't had any bad experiences like that (based on your posts and following reasonable common sense). hopefully my vac purge will go well and not take hours on end (although i may end up doing so, haha). thanks again everybody. just for kicks, here's a pic of what I plan to purge this week. used hexane on 1 oz of some grade A high quality nugs (gdp x super sour diesel, 20% thc roughly). really all shades of amber (if thats possible) but nothing too dark (i hope).

I had my own concerns about safety as well but others here on RIU helped to alleviate those concerns. Like you say let common sense be your guide & you'll be fine. Most of the danger comes from people either blasting indoors or deciding to smoke or dab while butane is heavy in air...stupidity kills. Preconceptions about BHO are understandable; there's a lot of bs misinfo out there. Good luck VT

for shatter, you check after every hour or so of vac'n (let it cool down and test consistency) at 115-120 tops.

for wax, same temps, just longers vacs...

i am only pullin 50% thc right now, and my material is trim (mixed sugar leaf/light airy buds/leaf)

waiting on test results from the nug runs expecting higher percentages...

Finally, after almost 20 hrs of vac purge testing diff temps the hexane hash oil is finally clean enough to dab. still can't post pics? not sure why. maybe cuz rollitup.org hates mozilla firefox? eh? anyway, here's some links to pics i took during and after:

the final 10 hours of purging I set it on 160F because googling online it says hexane's boiling point (where a liquid turns into a vapor) is at 154.4F degrees. Reason also is cause up until that point I had only done 10 hrs vac purge at 120F and after testing it then i was still tasting nasties and traces of solvent (mmm....gasoline flavoring...yummmo). Then after the final 10 hr vac purge at 160F i tasted wayyyy less solvent, and the hash had a much more pronounced flavor and was more of a solid than a liquid at that point as well (once it had cooled down to room temp). possibly the majority of the traces of solvent had dissipated or evaporated to where the thc crystals could easily clump together with little to no moisture. also flavorwise it tasted and smelled just like the batch i initially used to make it. really interesting stuff.

at any rate, just wanted to share my findings with yall since yall were so nice to help me out on my first try vac purging. thanks again guys. good luck to you all.

@crazyfooljdm: i think from my experience leaving the initial solvent run of liquids out to evaporate outside for 1 or 2 days helped prior to any controlled purging. leaving the dish outside the first 2 days before using heat or vac purging helped the strength of many of the hashes i've made in the past. just from my experience though. not sure what solvent you're using but i know this works for acetone (again, this is from my experience).
