Veg Light Options on 2x4x4 veg room?

ok, been searching around. read alot of threads. still not sure which way to run.

looking to light a 2x4x4 veg room. indoors/dirt. 4/6 plants max likely in veg at any one time.
forgot to add, 18/6 light cycle is what i will be running.

looking for the lighting system that will yeild me short, fat bushes. want to minimize stretch and bush as much as i can from 12 to 18 inches going into the bloom room.

will top if needed, but i know certain spectrums can help as well. So, which light type will be best to help maintain a short fat bush?

CMH (Ceramic Metal Haliade(sp)) would use a 400w on HPS ballast?
MH with enhanced blue on MH Ballast?
8light T5 with the 4/8 on option?

Currently, I do have a 400w CMH setup i ll be using for bloom, and can use that for veg until i can decide on a permanant veg light.

Please offer your results with pics if possible, to your opinion of why your light choice is more suited. No flame wars, no bullshit. just good supported opinions please.

Very Much Appreciated.
thanx

only 4 foot high? i would prob stick w/ the t5s too low height for a 400mh i like my leds but you still need minimum 12-15 inches off canopy for good light dist.
hope this helps

Yup...I'm with Joe. I always prefer a MH with a Hortilux Daylight Blue bulb, but you don't have the height. T-%'s are pretty impressive. We use em to harden up clones for the 1000 watt MH's. They'll get you to 12" just fine, but 18" is really pushing it. They just don't have the penetration of a MH.

In your sittuation, I would get em to 12" with the T-5, then put em in the flower room and keep em on 18hrs under a MH for a few days to pack on some more mass and a few more inches before hitting them with the HPS on 12hrs. Just a thought. Obviously, if you're running a perpetual, this will not work.

There's a bunch of pics in my grow thread showing our plants under T-5's and 1000 watt MH's. The 2 - 1000 watt MH's on the table are Daylight Blue bulbs, and the 4 - 1000 watt MH's on the floor are Pulse Sart 6.4 MH bulbs.

excellent. thankx for the tips. COULD make the ceiling 5ft, but it would really start to limit the top area, and i need a small amount of room to hang some cloths. lol.

i was wondering on the T5s penetration abilit as they got taller. i can get rid of the heat of a MH if need be. Currently i have them in the bloom under a 400w CMH, and they appear to be really doing well. which is why i am kind of leaning to the CMH again. T5 would be a bit cheaper overall, but if its limited in penetration, i think id be more inclined to work out the theat issue. maybe use a 250w CMH in the veg area. If i didnt mention it. for the moment, this should only have between 2 to 6 plants from either clone or seed at any given point. IM shooting for 3 to 4 ave. but occasionaly may have one a week out of bloom yet, when i put in a few seedleings/clones again.
i do plan on a perpetual and a swap of strians as it goes thru. Idea is 2 plants every 3 weeks out to cure.

you could probably squeeze a 400mh in there with an air cooled reflector vented externally but i think you will run into problems w/coverage as they get taller (your edges will be in the shade) personally i shoot for no shade anywhere and you are limited as to how high you can go so it seems to me maybe ho t5s which i personally have never used for flowering or possibly two or three GOOD 300 watt rated/150 watt power draw led fixtures which i have also never used for flowering....yet. would be about right. if you crunch the numbers the ho t5s use power very similiar to a mh. thats why i put my 400 watt mh on the shelf and bought a couple blackstars.but you will be pushing it for height even with those. very little heat produced from these fixtures so one less thing to worry about. 5 ft high is much more doable either way. i am lighting the exact same area in veg w/two 280 watt blackstars and am very pleased with their performance so far. i would compare their coverage almost exactly to a 400 mh and growth as well. still saving up for some flowering models.:)

this is for Veg area only. sorry if i didnt express that. mostly becuz i can only possess 12 plant at any given point here, including curring. once cured. i can also have 2.5oz. need to keep within the laws.

seedlings. clones and maybe a small mom or 2. if i need more room, i can get a bit more, just need to make room in another closet for my hanging cloths, then i can go all the way up. overall the total room size is 4x4x7 i can use. but trying to multitask with it. lol

i have a 4x6x7 bud room setup already.
i just need the best suited light option for vegging in this smaller room.

well i had to get it rolling. so i just grabbed a t 12 2 bulb unit, and a 6400k and a 5100k bulb and put it up to get moving. had to put the first girls into bloom. After a few weeks, its working ok, but i can see less growth than when everything was under the CMH. SO next week ill likely be picking up a 2nd CMH setup to Veg under from now on. and by the time i get 2 more girls into bloom, ill pick up another for 2 in bloom. wont be much longer, and i ll be looking at making a move, once i get my new setup Started and Finished.
