veg steamer to create humidity and bring your temp up!!!!

im in the uk its been cold here for a couple weeks as a result the temp and humidity in my grow room dropped off. i was thinking how i could resolve the issue when i seen the veg steamer, the steamer comes in sections to stack on 1 and other. so the steamer bowl holds roughly an hours worth of of water unless your sat round all day this wouldnt be any use to you. so what i done was siloconed the next section onto the bowl, this made it big enough to roughly hold water for 5 hours straight use. i had to drill a few holes to let the water drain down but it was simple. i sat the steamer in my room and switched it on brought the humidity up to about 65% but my exhuast fan kicks in automaticly when the humidity gets above 65% and brought it back down to around 50% and it brought the temp up a couple of degree's just what i needed. dont know if will help anybody else but it helped me so i thought i would share. peace...:weed:

Stop with the steamer.
I live in UK... Humidity is normally fine no need to go mad with a steamer unless its your central heating is drying air out to a silly level...... but if it was that you wouldn't have a heat issue
Mmmmmm warm moisture condensing on ya plants aint going to like that.
Using a steamer to increase humidity is extreme....... just think of all your nice ballasts.... bulbs.... controls..... sockets that steam is condensing on. NOT SAFE.
If it was that easy humidifier would be made on a steam principle and be cheaper ;)
Buy a tube heater. That'll sort your heat issue and pretty sure your humidity is more than ok.
What is your humidity ?
If you are using a carbon filter.... steam will kill it FAST

humidity dropped off too 29% from all i read thats too low. as for ballast and sockets none are actually in my room all wiring goes outside of the room as for the light its so hot no water gets to it it just evaporates my cooling system seems to keep the humidity fairly stable with it switched on. but yes i aggree with you it could be hazourdous in some enviroments. just seemed to work for me only a short term fix tho. thanks for the reply

Would a humidifier not be more economical on the leccy?
Yes... very.

You think it's working now but......
It WILL screw with your plants at some point. I can see plenty bud rot coming on if you don't quit with the Steamer.

You silconed up your steamer to give it a larger capacity... even though the heating element was designed for a smaller volume of water, meaning it WASN'T design to be on for 5 hours as you have done. Most heating elements in steamers are designed to be on for a small period of time followed by a resting period. AGAiN DANGER
29% humidity ain't going to feck with your plants as much as STEAM.
Buy an humidifier or simply place a bowl of water in your grow room.
You have been warned but if you think you know better. :)

It's been cold but not that cold. I just leave it all alone, they grow just fine, maybe a touch slower, but they grow just fine. I never understand all the jumping through hoops to keep everything PERFECT, nature doesn't maintain a constant 78 degrees and 38% humidity :D

thanks dude its all been duely noted and taken on board it was just a short term fix. i have a bowl of water in there already but doesent seem too help too much. a humidifier would be great but a bit too much of an expense at the minute. do you think 30% humidity is ok for young plants they only 3 weeks old from seed have read they like more humidty when this small. i have taken the steamer out now and keep putting bowls of warm water in every couple hours or so. whats your humidity at dude??

I would have no idea if that is ok for young plants as i do not and will not buy a humidity meter, cannabis grew for just a few years prior to it's invention so i don't really see a requirement. I have never known my humidity and have never actively controleld it and have never really encountered any issues that havn't been directly my fault, such as drunken watering the plants

Only time I make sure humidity is bang on, is when cloning.
For the record my humidity in the main grow area is from 30% to 60% Only thing I control is temp.

great stuff i suppose i got caught up in all the optimum stuff and decided they needed more lol ill just keep a close eye on them now. i am on a 20/4 cycle at the minute and noticed after 1 cold night earlier in the week the temp dropped off to 10 degrees c will this have any adverse effect on the plants?? its my first grow but have been reading about growing for a couple years just neeeded the space to do it and i have now. any info will be great they already seem a bit stunted in there growth they are all staying short about 4 inchs and have between 4 and 8 leaves on each plant and they are 18 days old thought maybe they would be bigger by now but in saying that they all seem healthy nice and green. and i know the tighter they grow the more nodes the more bud blah blah blah but was expecting them to have more leaves and branches.
