Veg time! Does it count from the moment I plant or from some other indication?

I've been growing a little while now 'and really want to know when you class veg time " veg time 'and the transition from seedling to veg?

I've always classed veg time from the moment I start topping/training my plant
Usually around 2/3wks after germinating?

I know! It's all dependant on the pot size and strain ect ' and the environment conditions like humidity and temperature,

I read threads all the time' and wonder how some growers can keep a plant in a 6.5l pot for veg & flower without getting rootbound because 'I struggle to keep my plants from getting rootbound in a 6litre transition from 3"rock wool?

I pot up from 1" rock wool to 3" to a 6l pot of coco/perlite and within 28days from seed there all root bound? Different strains as well ,sativa hybrids , indica dom ,it doesn't matter 'I still get the same result.

So is it right to think that if my plants are rooting out there pots that fast ' I'm doing something right or wrong? It feels like something right but it's a pain in the ass because I've oly got 11litre pots as my flowering pots and I'm a little wurried I'm not potting up big enough!

Any thoughts on this guys?

I start counting veg from the 3rd or 4th node, from seed, depending on how fast and healthy they are growing. People grow 3ft plants in 6" Rockwool cubes in flood ands drain systems, treat plants in small containers the same. Lots of small waterings over the course of the day. The big issue is not alot of medium to buffer ph and potential for quick nutrient build up.

What do you consider rootbound? If your pot isn't FULL of roots, literally packed with a ball of roots, your not rootbound. Cut off the bottom 1/2" to 1" of the roots, put a layer of fresh soil in the bottom and drop the plant back in. It'll throw out more lateral roots.

i've always counted veg time from when they have about 3 sets of leaves, because thats when i put them under the real lights. i don't start counting flower time till i actually start to see little buds, maybe 10 days to 2 weeks after the flip

Yea that's basically how I evaluate beING root bound myself , roots poking out of all the dranage holes and dying off isn't what u like to see when I inspect the pots so i pot up to give them more room to grow.

I have noticed this happens more when Im growing from seed for some reason?

Amazed how experienced growers yield so much in small pots

Just because roots are growing out the bottom doesn't mean it's rootbound. Seed grows throw out a trap root that shoots straight down to it can't go anymore, then branches out. Those roots will be air pruned, causing more lateral branching. Are they rootbound, or do they just have roots curling around the sides and bottom. If the center of your dirt ball isn't full of roots, your not rootbound. Trim the curling roots, add some bottom dirt, repot and top dress.

Well ' I'm planing on filling my trusty old 2x2 with nothing but BUD! BUD! BUD! I've got 3 plants in 11litre's of 70/30 coco perlite

feeding gh flora trio and a couple of others like veg boost, cal&mag even though I'm using tap water at a EC of 0.5 i still add a couple ml per gal once a week?
Silica for strong steams to hold up the BUD'S lol & shogun dragon force for a pk replacement at the end of flower and that's it 'my strains are 1x white widow from greenhouse & 2x sour d that's unknown but was given to me by a guy who runs a seed bank so I hope there super nice plants.

I've been pulling 3oz dry per plant in a 3plant grow with 50day from seed veg under 2x old skool Mars300 leds with a modest amount of training so' what I'm thinking is 3 plants in coco/perlite with hydro styLe feeding (once per day in veg)
(2wice a day in flower)
Under a 400watt hps & scrog ' I'm thinking maybe try for say 1gpw ???
My setup has improved so has my knowledge?

My plants are 1/3 the size bigger than that would be if I was in soil 'so if that's anything to go bye maybe I will hot my target if transition to flower & final push go well??

if I'm being honest' I think my root balls are somewhere between what you suggest and what I've been doing,
That are packed in the pot but could go a week longer if I keep a eye on them? I might well just give them longer in the 6l pots next time instead of transplanting to 11litre's 2week before the flip ,maybe 1 week then flip

I start counting from the time the seed hull falls off and the first leaves are visible but I top once at the third node then flip to flowering when the plant gets 12 inches tall. this takes about 6 weeks but I use size and not time to determine when to top and when to flip

what style of grow to you practice?
Due to space constrictions 'the biggest space I can manage is 5sqf max so scrog is my preferred method

Do you have a picture of one of your plants just before them flip?
