Vegetate Stage, How Long is Too Long?

I have 7 plants. I've been on an 18/6 light cycle for 8 weeks exactly today. I have two plants that are about 12"-14" tall and seem ready, but most of my other plants are in the 4"-6" range. Can I just start flowering them all? Or am I going to to be forced to start two separate chambers (I grow in a closet)? I plan on making clones from the two big ones so I'm not overly concerned about yield this time around.

The main problem here is that I don't know yet what sex my two "good' plants are.

Any ideas? Suggestions? Facts? Thanks!

Your plants should be showing sex by now. Seems like you have a few indica (short) and some sativa's (tall) 2 months is good, I imagine your limbs are alternating now and u should be able to look between the 6-7 node and see the sex. It will be small but look for a small stem with a head (male) or a tiny upside down spade (female). Can u get pics?

They can all go in now. Just put the small ones on booster seats so they are even with tall ones.

The best that I can tell, I don't have any females. According to all of the pictures I've looked at on the internet, they look female. My problem with taking clones now is that I have nowhere to put them. I am very limited in space.

not trying to be a dick but 4-6 inch plants after 8 weeks veg, something aint right there, unless you meant 4-6 foot then flower immediatly cos they will be monsters

Pounds baby, Pounds!!!! (jerky boyz quote)

Ya. Top your tall plants and give your small plants a chance to catch up by leaving it in veg for another week. then put your hps light as close as possible without burning it and your yeild will be happy. plants love to be close to your llight.

Agree with that. The most important factor about veg time is pot size - what sizes are their pots? Are they growing, and if not when did they stop? Plants not growing is most commonly because of root lock. Veg time is totally your decision to make, after accounting for how much space you have with predicted flowering stretch (so you should flower them at about 40-70% of their desired size), and fitted with container size (so to grow plants for 3-4 feet eventually you need at least 3 gallons each).

If they are small for some other reason, you should definitely fix that before you flip to 12/12. Tell us more about your grow, show pics?

if you run out of room when your flowering, you vegged too long. It's all a matter of the space you are limited to. You can not veg too long if you have the room & light penetration.

To get an idea of the sex with out having to put your little ones into flowering, you can do what someone else suggested me to do. I am guessing you are not a very experienced grower (like myself, this is my first time grow so take any advice I give with a grain of salt), then cloning isn't the best option for you at the moment. Make a sleeve out of something like panda plastic or anything that will cover a single branch that you can easily remove. Now leave it on for 12 hours and take it off for 12 hours. In a week to two weeks that branch should start showing signs of sex.

Sorry to bump an older thread, and for a reason that is off-topic to the thread description. But I just had to ask...

"Make a sleeve out of something like panda plastic or anything that will cover a single branch that you can easily remove. Now leave it on for 12 hours and take it off for 12 hours. In a week to two weeks that branch should start showing signs of sex."

Is that true? Can you force specific sections of the plant to flower while leaving the rest of the plant in a veg cycle? Or could you trick a branch to show sex in this manner for any amount of time before it hermes?

i dont know about that, but outdoors i veg for 4 months, more if possible and i get a good amount. the longer you veg, the bigger your yield will be. if the plant grows 2x its size why flower after a month its only gonna be 2' tall. why not wait a little extra and do a 2 month veg, then you could have a 4' foot plant and a lot more bud!
