Vegging with Metal Hailde as opposed to Fluorescents?

Ok... so im thinking about starting up a new tent 2x2x2m running 4 x digital 600watts
and basically scrapping my veg cupboard and vegging them in the tent.

All i need to do is switch the bulbs from MH to HPS when it is time to flower.

I have only ever veggied with a 150w cfl (9000 lumens) and i understand that i can get up to 85000 lumens per 600w metal halide bulb.

Im guessing i will see rapid growth if i switch and better results in terms of internode spacing and general plant health.

So my question is... if they grow faster and taller and take less time to do so, when you flip them into flower will they perform as well as a plant that got two months vegging with cfl's as opposed to one that got only one month with the better lights and reached the same height?

Im ideally aiming for 2 -2.5ft height before i flip them into flower

Hope this makes sense

Thx

Your CFLs will provide tighter internode spacing as apposed to a MH bulb. On the other hand, you'll get bigger stalks, beefier branches, and quicker growth with MH.

To answer your question, you'll reach your 2-2.5 ft height faster with MH with no downsides as far as 'lost vegging time'. Regardless of how long it took you to get to said height, your plant is equally as mature.

on a separate note... does anyone know how long it would take to get a plant to 2 - 2.5 ft using a 600w MH?...

thanks for the info... so not much difference time wise compared to using cfl's

i was hoping it would maybe cut veg time by a month or so but if there isnt really any time saving i might as well stick with a 2 room method for constant flowering.

yea thats what i do in my grow room i just have plants vegging and then i flower in a tent,i must say after switching to the t5 the initial growth is slower but the plants are much more bushy and compact and when i switch into my grow tent where i have 2 600w hps they explode with growth

I get tighter nodal spacing with my 400 mh vs the 80w flouro setup I have.. WAY tighter and the plants seem to get taller *slower* than with the flouro, but with about 3 times as much leaf and stem growth.

huh? noway CFL's provide tighter internode spacing, that was a typo correct? IMO the HID will give youmore growth, bushier plants, tight inter nodes and fat thick stalks. CFL's will keep your plant alive, but will not thrive. of course this is just my experience and what i have seen.

If it were me? I would just stick to the HPS bulbs the whole way through veg and flower. They are after all the most efficient bulbs your going to be able to purchase and they are pretty cheap too.

I've been vegging with MH since the beginning and it's given me amazing results, it's good for anything 2 weeks old or more in my garden.

No typos in my original post. I agree with what you're saying minus the internode spacing part. It's all about spectrum and you may have been using a different spectrum than myself.

i agree, you have to introduce clones slowly. Or i have noticed they stop growing for a week or so, then bam it's on.

i veg with a eye hortilux 400w MH. flower with a 600w eye hortilux super HPS.
