Ventalation questions.

Hello RIU folks.. Been lurking a while, but usually don't start my own threads because the info I need is pretty obtainable with a little effort. I did my first outdoor grow last summer, an learned a ton of stuff. Well, I decided to get legal (live in Canada) and took things inside. I gutted my old shed, built a room inside a room, hung a 600 watter and off I went. I built this room right around the end of December, and where I live it was pretty cold outside. I started my first grow the beginning of January, and finished up a few weeks ago. Things went well, and it was really just a test to see if the room would hold heat, wouldn't get to hot..ect. The problem I am running into now, is because I build it in the winter, trying to keep the heat in, I really didnt give to much thought to cooling my light, and venting. I am trying to do my research, and it a bit overwhelming.

I am hoping someone a bit more experienced, could point me in the right direction. I am looking for bare minimum for now, as the DIY budget is a bit tight. I know I will need to cool my 600w light, and it has a 6 inch glass cool tube.. but where I get lost is how. Remember.. This is a room inside a room. Do I have to cut a hole in my wall, with one fan blowing cool in through a length of 6 inch tubing through one side of my light, and 1 fan sucking it out through another length of tubing to an exhaust? How big should the fans be.. My room is 7ft by 6ft.

Here are a few pics so you can hopefully get an idea. Any info would help big time... I walked in there earlier.. and the temp was 86, with about 5 more hours to go. It was easy to cool it down by opening both doors for a few mins, but I want to avoid that at all costs. I knew it was too easy how everything came together, with not much effort. The average temp in the room all winter was 78.. With 45-50% RH

Yes, you will need to create some type of exhaust port to cool your light. You will want to get flexible ducting with insulation to go between your intake and the light, and then the light and your fan. You want the fan to be drawing THROUGH the light, not pushing. Your best bet is to intake from one side of the shed and exhaust out the other. Air cooling your light may be enough to keep your temperatures in check. Air cooling your lamp will also allow you to drop your light closer to your plants which is epescially helpful in your SCROG setup!

and make sure u use something over the intake and ehaust ends to keep out bugs
i use a 6 inch jenn aire cooktop exhaust fan dont know cfm but moves alot air
just make two holes and use one fan on exhaust end
78 in winter is good but warmer weather is coming
where am at its here already

Hey guys.. Just wanted to give you an update. I started my new grow almost a week ago, and my new Ventilation/Light cooling system is working great!!.. Its still not super hot outside yet, but I can tell the difference. Its not my "Final" set up either.

This was totally low budget.. In fact I think it cost me less than $20, and super easy. I bought a 10ft length of 6 inch vinyl (its not near warm enough to melt it) duct ($9.99) and only used about 5 ft. I bought a 6 inch dryer exhaust ($5.99) and a few clamps and a roll of Duct tape. I cut a hole in the wall and fit the exhaust in. I attached the 6 inch vinyl to one end of my light, and ran it to the exhaust. I mounted a fan I had lying around to the other end of my light, to blow through. Its not really cooling the light as much as it is just getting rid of the hot air that would otherwise remain in the room. Its exhausting and cooling at the same time..:-P

As I said, this is not my "Final" set up.. But its working for now.

im still along for the ride
as for the ducting u can get that in a thin flexible alum at hardware store
if heaven forbid u have a hot bulb explode it would melt the vinyl one
might never happen but its a thought
