whats up everyone. I am going to be growing in a small closet using an HID light(probably 400-600watt) i know that heat will be a problem so i was wondering, what are some methods for proper ventilation in my closet(4ftx4ftx6ft). I want this to be a good discussion thread for this topic so everyone can get any help they need when it comes to grow room temp.
peace and love, fuck the government
Thanks.

i will vote for Ron Paul but i am afraid he will not win. Its sad but true. Money makes all the difference when it comes to elections. Ron Paul has great amazing ideas but he simply just does not have enough campaign money. Money sucks. Fuck the structured society we live in.
Now can anyone help answer my question? Respect.

THe best would be a inline fan. but if your low on chash you could use a high power bathroom exhust fan.
I use a 120 cfm bath exhust fan. works pretty good. it cost me 50 bucks. home depot

cool. 50 bucks is not too bad if it gets the job done. Does your fan make a lot of noise? Whats your setup like man?:spew::hump:

nice man thanks for backing me up here. From reading, a lot of people grow in the closet which means a lot of ventilation problems. I am yet to see pictures that focus on ventilation systems. Once i have my system going i am going to learn and teach what i have learned. Thats what its all about. This sites amazing.

Hey what's up Growjahherb,
Check out these guys Hydroponics, Indoor Gardening Supplies, Hydroponic Systems - home and oh yeah, get their wholesale catalog and save a bunch more...

Also, I have a 4X4X6 grow tent and use the 265cfm fan, but probably could get away with the 180. To know what you need, just figure out your cubic feet 4X4X6X=96.

Now you need to take into account that you have oscillating fans, pumps, lights, CO2 and odor control all going at once; so you will want to get an exhaust that is atleast 1 (one) step up in power.

And oh yeah, the 265cfm was only $59.97 wholesale!

nice man thats a lot of help. Does the fan make a lot of noise? What do you mean by an exhaust 1 step up in power. What exactly is an exhaust?
I am planning on changing all the lights in the house to cfl to save on the bill to not draw as much attention to my self. I am going to grow in an apt. so i need to make sure my neighbors dont smell anything. Any recommendations as to what to do about smell? (i am growing my plants in the open in my closet. not in a box)
Appreciate everything, one day ill return the favor to someone like me.:peace:

You bet dude, I'm happy to help. We all are here at RIU.

You are going to have a lot of heat build up, so you have to have a way to get it out. That's what ventilation is all about. You exit the hot air (exhaust), you enter in cool air (intake) and circulate it around (oscilating fan) for the plants. So you will actually need atleast 3 fans. The oscilating fan can be just a regular Walmart special, but the others need to be rated for the square footage of your grow area.

Now that air that is getting vented out of you closet needs to be treated so that it does not smell, therefore I would recommend a carbon filter. Luckily, you can make one yourself pretty cheaply. Just check out this link International Cannagraphic Magazine Forums - DIY pro style carbon filter as a matter of fact, if you check out the whole Links page International Cannagraphic Magazine Forums - ICMAG'S OFFICIAL ~DIY~ LINK-O-RAMA; you'll learn alot.

Okay I'm back,

nice man thats a lot of help. Does the fan make a lot of noise?

The fan does make a good bit of noise unfortunately, but you can also make a buffer. I intend to buy the parts for making one tomorrow.

What do you mean by an exhaust 1 step up in power. What exactly is an exhaust?

You want to make sure that you are fully exchanging the entire amount of stale air in you growing area with fresh air, so it is best to have a fan that will acheive that without problem. So having a fan that can do it for an even larger area makes you good to go (safe).

I am planning on changing all the lights in the house to cfl to save on the bill to not draw as much attention to my self.

As long as you are only using like one 400w or 600w or 1000w light, you really have nothing to worry about with the bill, the electric company or LEO. You can however expect your bill to go up atleast like $100.00 a month. Which is alot less that an oz of killer weed!!!

I am going to grow in an apt. so i need to make sure my neighbors dont smell anything. Any recommendations as to what to do about smell? (i am growing my plants in the open in my closet. not in a box)

Now this is something that you do have to worry about, cause it will smell up the place alot more than if you just smoked a couple of doobies. Use a carbon filter like in the link I sent you.

Appreciate everything, one day ill return the favor to someone like me. :peace:
No worries and you're welcome!!!

Hey D4K and Yo Growjahherb,
This info will help both of you.

It's the same scenario no matter how you look at it, except it would be wise to vent to the outside instead just to another room.

Check out this video on Google - Stoned Free Guide to Growing Cannabis Stoned Free Guide to Growing Cannabis. And also go to YouTube and watch "I Grow Chronic", both of these are pretty good videos on setting up a grow room from start to finish.

You could also do a search on The Marijuana Grow Bible, it free on the net. Oh wait a minute; I have the link for that too... Green, Greg - The Cannabis Grow Bible, 4th edition color

And if you know anything about TORRENTS, you can download a crap load of free grow videos. Just do a Google search on "marijuana grow videos torrents" and start reading up.

Well, it's late here - already about 3:30! I'm outta here, going to bed.
Good night fellas; have fun reading and watching,

also grow in a confined space that is not easily vented.

for best results, and super cool growing conditions, best to use a cool shade light coupled to a 125cm in line fan.

at base of door install a 8 -10 cm 240v pc cooling fan to feed in fresh air and negate air pressure problems that lead to poor air supply - managed to get one off of ebay for $1.50.

The bathroom exhust fan is pretty quiet. as you read more you will find all fans have a noise rating. Mine is mid range and and still very quiet. Check out my grow journal it should give you some ideas on how to set up a grow closet. scroll through it should help some

hey i grow in a closet not much bigger than yours. all i have is one of those space heaters that doubles over as a fan and i use it as a negative pressure ventilator. and i have one oscilating fan.. im almost two weeks into flowering and the plants look great. i think ventilation is very very important if your room is air tight other than that i think you get can get away with a simple set up, if you have $150 you can get a 4' inline fan and carbon filter. with the heat though. my 400hps heats up the room to about 75 degrees so its actually not to bad i dont know though man. id listen to these guys they definatly know more about it than i do. im just saying look at your grow and decifer whats best for you. not all grows need to be on the cutting edge with several hundred dollar ventilation systems. the hippie way is working just fine for me!!!
