ventilation how important ?

im setting up my grow room in my spare bedroom in a cupboard as for co2 could i just leave the door ajar a little when the lights are on ? or is a fan inside adequate there is a small gap under the door and whilst standing inside it with the door closed ( laugh if u must) it did not smell stale
 
I had to read this twice, at 1st I thought you were using co2, but I see you are not. If stealth is not a problem leave the door open if you want, but you should have an oscilating fan blowing across your ladies. It'll help build strong stems, which will than be able to support those huge buds that you are going to be growing.

i was going to install an extractor fan but i guess all it going to do is blow out the old air surely the door ajar and a fan is good enuff circulation? stealth isnt a problem plus i dont want to start cuttin up my doors if it isnt needed ?
 
Okay the hot stale air will rise. Does you door go all the way to the ceiling? Probably not. It's there you will have a pocket of trouble. That is where you need to install an exhaust fan that will suck that hot stale air out.
 
ok cheers how bad is it to open the dorr fully once an eve for a few mins to let fresh air in ? during light periods ?
 
If you opened it at least 6 times a day for several minutes that would help. And yes during light periods. But you still need the fan pulling in air by the gap in the door and also blowing on your plants. That should run all the time.

You may want to play with that setup before you decide.
Take your temp, and mark it down.

Than try it your way. Let the closet temp stabilize and take your temps again. You dont have to do this all at once, you can do one step today, and another tomorrow, whatever works for you.


Now take your two 120cfm fans and have them both blowing in, now instead of 120cfm, you have 240cfm.


If you want to take this one step further, you can try having both fans on exhaust and take your temps again, see which works best.


If you do proceed and take all three temps, I can assure you, I'd love to hear the results as which way worked best.

I think the ideal situation would be to have both fans at the top (heat rises) blowing out on exhaust, and having some form of vent near the bottom(drilled holes even). Doing it this way would accomplish several things, the hot air would be promptly expelled, new, fresh, cool air would be drawn in and allowed to flow across your babies, while doing so, you would also be introducing fresh, new co2 to the plants also.

Good advice video. The drilled hole idea is what I did in my flower side. It only cost 99 cents and some work. Just covered front and back with a carbon filter (the kind you get a walmart for a furnace cheap). The exhaust pulls the fresh air through the homemade opening at the bottom and pushes the stale air out the top.
 
ok will try that and keep you posted once i have set all this up i will take some pics n post a grow jornal so how much of a gap to let ventilation in throught the bottom ? how big to the drill holes need to be ? at present there is a 2 cm gap at the bottom of the door but as this is going to let some kind of light in i was going to cover it during dark periods ????
 
Cover the holes on at least one side with a carbon furnance filter. This will help block the light and filter out ickies too.
