Venting / Cooling for my 3x3 Grow Tent

Hi, I'm starting a 1st grow in about a week or two when my seeds get here. I just had a few questions on centrifugal in-line fans w/ the carbon filter and ducting.

Are 6'' fans more quiet than 4'' fans? I heard with a speed controller on both, the 6'' fan is going to be much more quiet. I read in one thread that with the ducting, filter, and speed controller on a 6'' fan you can stand next to it and barely hear it. I'm going to putting this 3x3x6 tent in my bed room and I am concerned I won't be able to sleep.

I don't mind noise, as I leave my computer, and a space heater on (occasionally) and can sleep through that. I'm wondering how noisy this will be? Does anyone currently have a 3x3 setup in their bed room and what fan they are using and are they still able to sleep ? lol

I'm thinking about the HTG 6'' inline fan or the Vortex 6'' w/ a speed controller.

Also, in terms of temperature, I live in the midwest, its cold as hell in the winter and hot as hell in the summer. What do you guys set your thermostat too? I'm guessing if I set it at a solid 70 the tent will be 7-10 degrees warmer, which would be perfect

I'm utilizing a T5 setup, so I don't think Heat will be as much of an issue.

PL-55 4 bulb 2' on top = 20k Lumens
Either a 4 bulb or 8 bulb 4' as side lighting = 40k Lumens or 20k Lumens

for a total of 40 or 60k lumens. I'm leaning towards the 4 bulb setup as 60k lumens may be too much for 4 auto plants.

Assuming you get a quality fan, I think most of your noise comes from the air movement, not the fan motor.
The 6" may be quieter than a 4" fan, but I don't think this will be significant. A 6" fan would probably be overkill for your tent.
A 4" can fan (or vortex) should be fine. Get a quality filter that will not create a lot of resistance, and keep your duct runs short & straight.
Consider insulating your duct work. You could build a insulation box for your fan to reduce the noise. If you are not going for a stealth grow, the 'white noise' from a fan should not impact your sleep.

I did a youtube of the vortex and man those things are friggen loud still. I need my beauty sleep :)

I have narrowed my search to two fans (I will spend the extra money)

TD 150S is 204 dollars on Amazon and I heard this bad boy is quiet, really quiet.

There is also the Panasonic Whisperline.

Has anyone used either of these fans? Am I going to be able to sleep with these at half speed?

I got a whisperline in my bathroom!
It is quiet, but you still hear the air flowing throught the grill.

You may want to consider a grow box instead of a tent. The extra mass of the walls will help quiet any growing noise.

I bought a Can fan & filter. Both high quality. You can find them on ebay, amazon, or most grow shops.
Consider craigslist. You may find a fan you could try without a full retail investment.

Thanks, that's a good idea, I will look on craigslist. Not many options here in Chicago. Might have to look in Michigan.
