soo i just got a 1000w HPS/MH system for $90 off craigslist. cudnt pass it up even tho seems like more than my area can handle. i got a 3x3x7 grow tent. 2 computer fans and looking into getting 2 of these rated at 160CFMView attachment 2102770i know its not idea, but is it possible to keep temps below 80F w these + 2 computer fans venting the tent only using these for the light itself. SOMEONE HELP

that could work, but for me summer is approaching so i would use at least a 200+ cfm to cool that i use a six inch max fan for two thous 330 cfm i believe have not tried it in summer yet

To be honest man I really don't think so. First off you have a 3x3 tent and you are rocking a 1000w. That is light overkill anyway but tents are a pain to cool because of the limited height and how hard it is to get air into them. Not saying it isn't possible but with 2 computer fans and some cheap duct booster fans? I don't think so. If they say they are rated for 160cfm then count on 80cfm. You are better off getting 1 good inline fan to exhaust that air out of your tent and then look into using the computer fans to actively intake cool air somehow cause you are gonna need it. Or if your ballast is dimmable try running it at 600w with a 600w bulb to lower the heat. You will still have more than enough footprint at 600w to cover that tent.

I posted this elsewhere on this same topic, but i will repeat
Duct Booster fans like that are junk.
A cfm is rated with no restrictions on either end. This does not account for pressure of the fan. These fans have no pressure and as soon as you put them into ducting you cut the flow into at least half.
Inline fans hold the pressure much better, so can get much closer to the rated cfm after ducting etc.
You say you are going to vent the tent with computer fans, i doubt this will work as the radiant heat of a 1000 watt is significant. And if it does how do you intend to contain smell? A carbon filter is going to restrict the computer fan immensely

u need some of these. or at least something similar. air cooled hood a 400 cfm fan becuz ur in such a small space with a 1000 some ducting and a filter if u dont feel like smelling ur house all up in flower. if u dont mind the smell u can save about 70 bucks. try to stay with a 400 cfm fan or something close if u get a 200cfm it will be a 100+ degrees in a 3x3 with a 1000 during summer. if ur broke grab just the fan and the ducting and loop it thru the ducting hole somewhere up top till u can get a hood. u will need an air cooled hood. u can use a cooltube but in my personal opinion they have a really shitty light footprint cuz the reflectors suck. computer fans and booster fans will not help in ur situation cuz of the size of ur light. but u will have some dense ass buds if u can keep it cool. also get a smaller bulb and ballast for veg if possible. a 1000 in vegg will cost u 100+ bucks easily in power. a 400mh or 250mh would be ur best vegg bet. the 1000 not so much unless u can afford the power. and u can just swap the bulbs out in the hood and plug the new ballast into it. u never have to take the hood down.

hood or something similar.

Im vegging under like 300watts of CFLs right now. Is it worth it? looks like alotta money just on venting? if i can get a 400w ballast and bulb for $60 i should do tht right? tht wud produce a similar yield in my 3x3 space? and the heat shudnt be so serious? and just sell tht 1000w shit sure i can nearly my money bakk it was only $90

begging under cfls is fine as long as u have enough of them. once the plant or plants start to get big they might need the light penetration that an hid will excell in unless u just keep adding a crap ton of cfls.. i used cfls for a few years. the draw back is that u need almost twice as much wattage in cfls to get close to the lumens of an hid. unless u get a nice t5 or something.

a 26 watt bulb has about roughly 1600 lumens if u get good bulbs. a 400watt mh has 30000+ u will need roughly 19-25 cfls bulbs to get the same amount of lumens as just the one 400 hid. unless u got an 8 bulb t5 but they are just as expensive as hid's and still have less penetration and use about the same power.

p.s. heat will hurt ur yield, potency and give u really light and not so dense bud even under the 1000. try to stay around 76 degrees or so for optimal growth and flower.

yes u will still need to vent a 400 in a 3x3 but it will take a lot less of a fan. a 400 can get away with a 200+ cfm fan for exhaust. im in cali and even my vented hood in my 2x4 with a 250+ cfm fan it gets about 77 or so inside.and ive only got a sq ft less of space.

i know it sems expensive and a lot of money to do it right but trust me i did it wrong the first time cuz of the cost and i wish i hadnt. doing it right would have saved me a lot of headache and frustration. now my shit is correct.

That's the way to do things... keep trying to cheap out and resist the best advice you've been given. You absolutely should have a vented shade AND a real in-line fan. I would consider this as good advice for any hid lighting... in a 3x3 tent.

u can grab just the 400 cfm fan and vent the tent itself until u get a hood. i wouldnt run the 1000 until u get a veted hood tho becuz u risk burning the shit out of ur plants from heat and the bulb being too hot and exposed in such a small space. also u can leave ur tent wide open with a fan blowing into it if it gets too hot with the 400 without a hood but i doubt it will.the fan circulates enough air with the doors open to expel most of the heat until u can get a hood. gotta scrub my balls and get on with my day. ill check back in about an hour to see if u have any other question that need answering. after that it will be tomorrow.

so ur tryna tell me either way i gotta buy one of those $100+ fans no matter if its 400w or 1000w?
pretty much but the good part is u can find them on craigslist. 400 cfm fans are about 50-80 bucks and they last about 10 years so u dont have to worry about them dying on u cuz u bought used. search "6 inline fan" "grow" "canfan" "vented hood" "air cooled hood" search thru all the posts. also look for a hood. search for a nice 400 watt ballast with vented hood and bulb so u get everything u need with a vented hood. u can use the hood for both the 400 and the 1000. just dont get the bulbs and ballasts mixed. that equals catastrophe. also u may find someone selling a whole setup that would be willing to piece stuff out. all u have to do is text or email and ask.

I run a 1000W HPS air cooled hood and you will need a good reliable fan or else your crop will burn.. Something over 200 CFM should work
