Venting with a carbon filter.how are you guys venting the air without detecting the smell and bringing fresh air in? example bringing air from downstairs to the grow area up stairs..venting into the attic?
the carbon filter should be enough to manage the smell to the attic correct?Same... Im just venting into the room outside my grow area... if your planning on venting into the attic, do exactly that, vent into the attic, whatever you do, dont block off the vents leading to the outside world by venting through those. Im not entirely sure of the physics of it but i put some boxes in front of my air bricks once and that winter, there was an unbelievable amount of ice up there, dripping down all over my boxes of photos etc. You need the through air, itll help draw air from you groom aswell.
Where would you recommend venting the hot air to without detecting the smell ?Be carefull venting into attics, pumping hot air into cold attics will give you one hell of a mess, places that have cold winters this should not be done, ever.
In a very short time the attic will drip condensation all over, ruining the insulation & growing mold on the underside of roof deck ,this is the scenario we all see on tv where renters destroy homes with mold.
No matter where you vent if odor elemination isnt done you will allways detect the smell, venting unclean smelly air into an attic will make the entire home reak, neighbors will smell the house 8 houses down, same goes with venting smelly air up a chimney,it just disperses smell over a larger area.Where would you recommend venting the hot air to without detecting the smell ?
Well i was just wondering, what would you recommend doing all the venting if the grow would be all upstairs? is it a must to take air out and bring fresh air in in all grow areas? ( flower and veg?)No matter where you vent if odor elemination isnt done you will allways detect the smell, venting unclean smelly air into an attic will make the entire home reak, neighbors will smell the house 8 houses down, same goes with venting smelly air up a chimney,it just disperses smell over a larger area.
So you see filtration & odor removal is a must, then you vent, here is how i vent my rooms as well as my lights.
At the start of the vent/filter chain i have a carbon filter, this is a box style filter i mount up in the ceiling as heat will rise to the top of the room, comming out of the filter is 6"inch ducting, this goes into my light on one side, the hole on the other side of the light is connected once again to ducting, this then goes into a centrifugal fan to where the fan is sucking or pulling air from the filter, thru the light to the fan,the exhaust side of the fan is where odor free air comes out.
This is where its user/room dependant, where you vent the hot air is up to you, when i grew in m home i vented hot air into the homes ducting, this way in winter i could open a damper & the hot air would heat the home,in summer i would close a damper & the hot air would vent directly out of the home via a 6" dryer vent in the wall.
Where you vent out the hot air is up to you,if you must use an attic condensation issues can be overcame, let me know if you must vent to an attic & i will tell you what to look for within the attic to assure you dont destroy the home by creating condensation.
Allways remember this when venting, what happens in nature when hot moist air meets cold dry air ?
Rain !
I will stick around the thread to help you but i gotta know the variables,is it a must the attic be used ?
What climate are you in ?
plus if you do this, you will be emitting hot air into your addict, yeah? in the winter, if you get snow, the snow will be melted on your roof, and EVERYONE will know something is up. "oh hey look, Whatsupbud's roof has no snow on top!?" you will get busted in a heartbeat!Be carefull venting into attics, pumping hot air into cold attics will give you one hell of a mess, places that have cold winters this should not be done, ever.
