vermiculite, yes or no, how much? HELP!!!

Right, im planning on repotting my plants later as the roots are starting to come out the holes in the bottem of the pots there in, have bought some 10ltr pots, while i was there i picked up a bag of vermiculite (£1.50 bargin i thought). so basically is it ok for mj growing or not, if yes how much do you mix in, thanx in advance:dunce:

The short answer is no, don't bother with it. Vermiculite will keep the soil wetter, which you don't want. Perlite on the other hand is great to mix into the soil, it helps with drainage and airation.

if you're using soil i like to mix some in with perlite as well. a ratio of 70:20:10, soil to perlite to verm. just my $.02. If you need to raise humidity fill a cup with verm and water. You can grow in verm only but you wont water as often, which ultimately means less nutes. so it's your call. If this is going to be your only medium I wouldn't use it
 
I called my local hydro shop and Home Depot, here in the states about Vermiculite. They both had the same answers about it. They said that they have all but stop producing it and have pulled the product they had because of the carcinogens contained in it. Just a friendly word of warning. :lol:

haha thats interesting, well ive just repotted my girls into 10ltr pots without the vermiculite, they look grrreat. thanx for the info guys, really glad im a bit of a noob and likes to make sure on everything first.:-P
