A local friend has been telling me i need to run my light vertical, and ill be shocked of the outcome. I have read about running a vertical setup, but my setup has been treating me good. but i have been thing about removing the reflector inside my cool tube and leaving it hung horizontal. I use a compact space. 3'x3'x'7, i was thinking doing this would be close to a vertical style. but i could be wrong... anyone?

If your light is straight above your plants than you want it to be horizontal. Vertical= not as good

Most of the light emitted by a bulb comes from the sides, not the ends, so if you wanna use it vertical it needs to be hanging in the middle of the plants, not above them.
The reflectors on cooltubes are usually pretty shit, but unless the light is right below a reflective ceiling, you'd be wasting half the light by removing the reflector. Better to just get a sheet of aluminium and make a reflector out of that, or buy a batwing or similar type reflector.

The grow has to be arranged properly to take advantage of the benefits which are absolutely real but with only 3x3 you don't have the room. Horizontal is best in your case unless you grow sativas and scrog them to the walls to make room for the light.

Look at heaths or all the others on here, do a search for vertical.

Or for an outside link try this:

Just one example, there are many. You could not yield the same with a flat garden in the same space. I have proven it to myself and others have verified it themselves. I only started vertical lighting last year and will never do anything else unless I'm in your situation where flat makes more sense.

If you just try hanging a vertical light over your flat garden running it like you did before it will suck ass. That proves nothing other than you did it wrong.

[with an "arena" scrog, in your small space, vertical bulb would be so sweet. that way the bulb is completely surrounded by a big ass dish of weed. save on height also. good luck

Actually even if you scrogged them to the walls you'd have a very hard time with it and constantly have to tie them back away from the light. Just say no. The only way I would suggest trying it is if you have a second grow area where you can veg the babies to 4' or so before they even went into that other room so crops still flip fairly fast.

You'd be best served with the glass on your hood and exhaust connected running as you are.

My setup here is the minimum size, it has a 1kw hps in the middle and is maybe 5.5' square. That's a lot of potential in that room that would never be possible flat but I do have a horizontal ebb and flow area in another closet to make it flip faster.
