End of week 1 -- putting out 3-fingered leaves!

LOL just posted late last night :) The airpots grow 2' per gallon of soil pretty comfortably, so a 1.2g airpot is roughly equivalent to a 2g normal pot for what you can get out of it. I grew 1oz from the OGK plant in a 1.2g last time and a) OGK is known to be a light yielder and b) that was the sickliest plant I ever grew and was harvested early.. would have yielded more if healthy/finished.
I might have some info that helps growing in fabric pot or bags. I have never used the "AirPots" yet. I make my own fabric bags from very heavy landscape cloth. It costs under a dollar for a 1 gallon and takes under 5 minutes to sew it on a machine. I often transplant from the 1 gallon ones so I taper the bag so the soil and plant come out easily. If anyone is interested I can go into it more. I also make bags from 3 gallon to 15 gallon for outdoors. - The 1 gallon ones bunch together, 4 to a square foot. - Watering them can be difficult normally. A good deal of the water flows around the sides and comes out. This is greatly reduced if you cinch something like a rope or wire or tape about 1/3 of the way down from the soil line. This makes the water turn back into the bag. You can also put a saucer or something under the bag to catch water that flows out. It will be re-absorbed over a day or so. ------------------- I imagine if you tilt the airpot that watering will become more of a problem as the water will go to the lower edge. You may be able to add a ring of something at the top of the pot that levels the upper lip. A drip system may also work and I am thinking of adding one. Could you make the sloped shelf act as a small water reservoir like a saucer would under a plant. That way the excess water would not be lost and may make watering easier and needed less. It could be done with a large lip that would make one side of the trough the plants sit in. Fabric bags might wick better than the airpot but I have never used them so don't know.

Going with airpots this grow -- not sure fabric bags are going to work well in my setup this time.

update for today - the new 3 fingered leaves are as big as the first single leaves on most of the plants now with the 3 fingers clearly visible... the runty AoS now where the others were around day 5-6. The cheesequakes are showing their sativa stripes with their new leaves. No fatties here! Everyone still looking great and progressing - looks like it will be time to water again tomorrow morning.

how do you water your plants? do u let it get bone dry before next watering or do u play of what ur plants are telling you?

I wait til the top of the soil starts getting dried out or I see any symptoms of the plants needing water. My soil mix is usually pretty airy even compacted a little so it's almost impossible to overwater.

Ending day 10 - got a new vid coming later. About half the plants are on their second multi fingered leaf set and the other half are still working on their first 3 fingers. I should've watered them yesterday morning and from now on I will when I first see the topsoil drying out instead of waiting til the top layer is completely dry. CQ6 got a bit too dry and started getting mild symptoms of it -- nothing too bad or that will stunt it long term... but it has been noted CQ6 - you are probably not as drought tolerant as your other family members who didn't show any signs. That's one strike against CQ6. To be fair she does have less dirt in her cup than most the other CQs as she was not a stretcher and was one of the 3 or 4 that I did not add any dirt to since it didn't stretch or start to fall over.

That one CQ6 is looking a bit sicklier today... looks like it got too dry and the nutrient level in the soil caused some mild burn because of it. Sure it will be fine, and the rest of the plants look fine... but CQ6 is the loser of the hardiness competition so far :) Nobody else has anything but a bit of mild leaf deformation due to the fan.

When do you move them to the stadium?

Gonna get the parts for the stadium and start building it next weekend after I get paid. I'm looking at a big airpot order as well -- may go for a 50 pack of 1.5 gallons for my testers. Next batch of seeds should get started that week too I'll probably put them straight into their final airpots as long as the new stadium setup is going to be done on time. The airpots I have the most of are too small and the rest are too big, so gonna just order a bunch -- one thing I want to be sure this round is that I treat all the plants as close to the same as possible so I can compare everybody's results for help in determining the best keepers. This week I gotta make the final decisions on how I'm doing this -- it's go time! Week after next things are gonna start getting real interesting in this thread :)

That looks like a solid setup. With the six panels set up that way it looks as if you'll get led light all the way around as well as hps.

As far as height goes, how much do you plan to utilize? From the floor up to how many feet? How much height do you think the led panels will cover set up that way?

Probably around 6-7' of vertical space. Planning on 3 shelves starting at floor level about 1' apart and offset about 6" horizontally. So the shelves should be just over 3' with the plant on the top shelves being the tallest. This is what I currently have envisioned for the shelves.. should be about 6' long and about 3.5' deep and about 3.5' tall.

The shelves will be adjustable to either sit flat for watering or raised up to angle as pictured for normal light cycles.
