very first grow, bagseed--some Florida Middis

I am a first time grower. I started my plants a few weeks ago, but fertilized too early and only one survived. I started a new batch a few days ago, they are 3-4 inches tall and are getting their first 2 leaves. The older plant is about the same height and has 8 leaves. I am using a "grow light" i purchased at walmart and a medium mix of 50% potting soil, 50% perlite. I have 12 plants growing in 16oz plastic cups. As of right now i have an organic blood meal 12% nitrogen fertilizer and liquid miracle grow fertilizer you add to the water. I have not used either yet. I have a small fan on them 24/7.

Just checked on the biggest one and she got 2 new leaves!!

also, and suggestions on what i should do for fertilizer?

Stems were looking a little weak, so i buried them up a little further. Plants are doing good, besides some that were stretching too far (this is why i buried them). Biggest plant got 2 more leaves and i think she is starting to split! Also sprayed them with seltzer water yesterday to increase CO2.

hey imagine...fellow citizen of the draconian state of floridia...peace...we need pics! it does sound like a bit of stretching on the big one, but you seemed to address that...you got nutes in waiting, and that's good. depending on what type of soil you got, you may not need to nute the plants for a few weeks. Also, may ask about the lights...you say a "grow light" - what exactly do you mean by that...do you know the wattage, color temp, etc. of the bulb?

The lights from walmart are flourescent style with 7800k and like 17w, the light they put out is really purple. thats about all the info i have on them. I probably need to get some new lights. Any suggestions? Keep in mind my current light is plugged in to a wall socket and hung on the hanger bar thing of my closet with strings. I would need some kind of similar setup to that.

have you read or researched using regular old CFLs...like in my picture below? they are cheap, keep very cool and you can load up on them. they come in 23W, 42W and up. they are available at wallie world, home depot, lowes, etc. i say go with a mixture of cool white and warm white while vegging then switch to mostly warm white during veg. i use power strips and little socket plugs and y splitters...good luck

i would like to use CFLs, but im unsure how to rig them up, especially in my small grow space

suggestions anyone?

Sorry no pics yet! crazy weekend! went to go see Steve Miller Band saturday:)
hopefully ill take some today!

also and update: The oldest one got four more leaves, and the little guys have four real leaves now. also, i buried their stems up a little further so theyd be a little sturdier.

have also been watering them and misting the leaves with carbonated water as i have heard this gives them more CO2...anyone know anything about this?
