That 'double pounder" thing is just a fancy way to seperate you from your money. I can tell from your questions that you have little to no growing experience. I would recommend starting small with a 400 or 600 watt light and a couple of hempy buckets. You can do this entire room here that I built for less than $1000.00. Tis is an 8 bulb t5, two 1kw hps/mh lights and ballast, a carbon scrubber, ducting, fans, nutes, flood tables, pumps etc.

"How many grows do you have under your belt ?" Very good question! Hydro is much more tempermental and easier to screw up than growing in dirt. Unless you are already familiar with pumps and resoivors you are likely to run into problems that don't exist with a dirt-grow. So learn in dirt and graduate to hydro after you know what you are doing. BigSteve.
This is how I learned, dirt first, now hydro. I'll never grow insid in dirt again.

My first grow was hydro. Steeper learning curve, for sure, but there is more than eggnog info here and in books to step right into it. Just do a lot of homework and you'll do ok! Everyone is right about the pumps and such though, there is more that can get out of whack. However a couple of five gallon buckets, air stones, and a simple aquarium air pump would be an easy way to get your feet wet, imho.
Cheers!

You guys are all very helpful. I really appreciate these responses. I just figured since it was my first grow I would try to do it right with the right equipment but it looks like back to the drawing board for me.

With that 1000w light you could get about 2lbs at the very top end. Of course, depending on strain, genetics, feeding schedule, dirt or hydro, etc. Even if you screw the pooch you'll probably end up with some airy bud that will be a pain in the ass to trim but still probably 4-8 oz. The light only covers a certain amount of canopy. That means whether you want to grow two huge 9-12 oz plants or six 3-4 oz plants, it doesn't matter because it has more to do with the area of the canopy that the light will cover and it should work out the same. Grow some clones into some hydro buckets and veg them under fluorescents or CFLs for two weeks to acclimate them to the growing medium and get them about 1-2 ft tall. Then veg them under that 1000w for 4 weeks. Then flower. Voila, you'll be the envy of all your friends with 1 1/2 lbs. Newbies can do well from the beginning. Just remember to veg them big. Small plants, small buds.
