Good question. I would love to find out too. Im wondering if the BLackstar has a warranty like the other one does. The Blackstar looks like it has more varied led colors in it.

Through some private messages with Curly, he suggested the vipar led because of the increased warranty and the overall better performance. However both are stated as good light its just explained to me that the vipar is more bang for your buck.

Another thing to consider, imho, is your country. Do you live in the UK or the States, or somewhere else? I was considering one of the VIPARs, but I opted for a Pro-Grow 180 instead. Same warranty (on paper), but based in the States, where I live.

WOah! The Vipar is close to 200+ dollars more! And the 100 Vipar looks awesome but it looks to me to have less power than the 240w Blackstar for the same price. And I just saw that the Blackstar has a 1 year warranty. Not bad.

J.P I think the pro-grow 180 or 260 may be the way to go for us, also it has a better warranty then both the blackstar and vipar.

Yo Swed. Yeah the Vipar is out of the question for me for the price, but if I had the budget it looks awesome. I Was just looking at the progrow 180. Its 309 without shipping which is more expensive than any other 180w led but you get the 3 year warranty. Only thing I am considering is the power it has. It has only 180w and I only see the color white, I dont see the other colors. The blackstar has only 1 year warranty but costs 289 and has all the different colors of the spectrum.

*edit. Just saw the video of the Pro Grow. The button actually puts out a red purple light which is awesome!

Im still not sold on the switch mode. One of the site reviews says each mode puts out only 50% of the light...not sure how that works. If I can understand how the switch modes work then I think I will be going for the Pro Grow. Im wondering: can I put 100% veg light out and switch to 100% flowering light? And lastly, im also wondering, whats the difference between the gro pro 100% output vs the Blackstar's 240w output?

Ok so I found this review site.
http://ledgrowlightsreview.org/lighthouse-hydro-blackstar-240w-grow-light-review

I am debating between buying your Pro-Grow 180 (Selective Switch) and a Blackstar 240w. I know the draw on LED's is not exactly what the label says. The blackstar 240w draws about 135 watts. My question is, how much real wattage does the Pro-Grow 180 (Selective Switch) draw? Even more so, the modes draw 50% wattage each. Hmpmmmm....Can anyone clear up the data? If the Grow Pro 180 Draws less wattage, the Blackstar seems perfect. And Blackstar can run 100% all the time. Im not sure how the Grow Pro Modes Work.

The PG180 draws about 150w with both modes on. Most recommendations are to use both modes until last weeks of flowering, that is what I am doing. So you get all 14 bands.

I know what you mean boy. I have a couple of days to think about it. Im glad you posted this thread though because I hadnt heard of the Grow pro. It looks awesome. he site doesnt list the spectrum readings though. And the Grow Pro doesnt have any benchmarks of yield on youtube videos. The only youtube video of the grow pro shows it not yielding a whole lot. Id imagine the Grow Pro can grow better than that video but the Blackstar 240 has so many videos of people getting nice big yields with all different types of growing mediums. And the switch mode seems nice, but I like the idea of the Blackstar staying the same for the whole grow. The Pro Grow has more flexibility and less chance to bleach plants. I found a site http://www.growmedical420.com/1506/the-current-medical-marijuana-grow/ and the guy uses the modes pretty nicely which gives me a hint as to how they work. He uses the veg mode, which is around 70 +-w ofwhite and blue light. Then Full spectrum light after 3 weeks of veg which draws around 130-140watts. If the Pro Grow is drawing around 130-150 watts and IS using blue lights and red lights, even though the site doesnt lists the exact manometers of the different colors, then im starting to lean more towards the Pro Grow for its same draw power wattage, its ability to have half the power for the first few weeks of plant growth, and for its warranty. I sent an email to Pro-Grow asking what the real draw wattage is for the Pro Grow 180. Ill see what they say.

Yes please add your finding to this thread if you would.
I was looking at my situation and i dont think the 400w is out of the question.

Very nice! The 400w looks amazing! Im seriously thinking of the 180w. I just want to know the actual draw wattage of it before making my choice. But, the quality looks higher than the Blackstar and it comes with its own Hanger Hatchet too!

the pro grows are decent units and so are the blackstars but ben at HH has been called out more tha once for lying abput his panels used to say that they were cree chips... there not and ill point you to the direction of this thread hydro hut performance on warranties saving you a couple minutes it basically said bens warranty performance is shit also the 1 year warranty isnt really much compared to vipars 3 year all inclusive warranty which means it dont matter what country your in ... your covered. not saying you should 100% buy vipar over these but take a good look around and make a good decision on what ya find , shit give the guys at vipar a call or email if ya want more info they are great for that , cheers fellas all the best

I love the look of the vipar and the clear performance but its just so much more costly. I realize all three companies (vipar, blackstar, pro-grow) are good, at this point im just looking at true output vs. cost to get the most bang for my buck.

Perfect, read the link. Awesome forum. Sounds like one guy had a bad experience but there was another good experience. At least I know I wont have to worry if any lights go out, that will be covered by warranty. I just need to know what the true draw of wattage the Pro Grow 180 has. Anyone have any tests on its draw?
