I am finally looking to start replacing some of the lights I have been using forever. I have some 1000w de that I am happy with and some 1000w digis and I just put in some 1000w mags. Long story on the mags.

315’s are looking promising, I have some friends who are doing well with the BoulderLamp version. Those are pretty nice and local but I am looking at other brands.

I am inclined to get the Hortilux Eye 315 cmh because I have been using their bulbs for years. They also seem comparable on price to the others like the sun systems and Solistek.

a cheaper version looks nice from Viviosun but I haven’t ever had their equipment.

Anyone using the Viviosun 315 cmh that can give me some feedback?

Philips makes the best CMH bulbs. I personally wouldnt wanna try to cover more than 2.5 x 2.5 feet with a 315 so plan on a lot of them.

I was not impressed with CMH yields, running DE 630 and DE 1kW CMH, compared to 1kW DE HPS.

I'm running the 315 vivosun sleek edition, it's small, it's compact and it's bright as fk

I'm using the 3100k Philips bulbs.

Even tho I have a room full of leds, I still keep a small table for the 315 to stay lit above.

I think that with 4 of them over a 5x5 area one could do pretty well.

But yeah, I will stick with my DE HPS for now and make the gradual move to LED. The CMH is a tweener.

It is so easy for lighting manufacturers to overstate a coverage area. The plants will grow, but yields aren't comparable. You see lighting manufacturers claim larger coverage areas that are weakly lit or stating their LED is 3000 watts to sucker people into thinking they are missing out. It's a minefield out there and you gotta be sharp to avoid being taken. Especially with LED.

I was planning on using 15 over a 8x12 set of tables. I am not so concerned about the gpw rather the yield from that space.

I just started considering new lights maybe I’ll take a look at the led’s

If your going to run cmh go with the 315w bulbs(philips). If you wanna run 630s dont go DE do the the twin 315s. All the DE ceramics suck. A 315 in a 3x3 tent or open room grids on 3' centers overlapping are decent. Gavitas are still king of yield but cmh quality is better imo.

I’m using the Vivosun 315.. loving it... but am concerned that I may need more light.. everywhere I’ve read states 3x3 veg 2.5x 2.5 flowering..I’ve just changed to 3100k... my 315 will get them good and frosty tho...I’m in a 3x3...

I have 2 vivosuns and I like them as much as the sun systems lec and the nanolux. At a fraction of the cost. I love how compact they are, light as a feather. I have a lec 630 and its heavy as hell!

Hey Renfro, I'm looking at adding another 4x4 tent to my room just wondering what you'd suggest for lighting? I currently have a 600w air cooled hood and it doesn't seem to spread the light very well.

I've been leaning towards a 600 or 1000 vertical parabolic with a 42" diameter hood.

Any reason to go with vertical or stick with horizontal?

If you can manage the heat , 1k all day

It's gonna get hot in a 4x4 tho so heat management will be crucial

You can't air cool a parabolic hood so the heat will be the issue. You also lose too much vertical space IMO.

Get a good vented hood, put a 1kW HPS in there and start pulling 2+ pounds a pop.

A SE 1kW HPS is ideal for a 4x4 area in flowering. If you aren't getting a gram per watt with a good yielding strain then you are doing something wrong.

Right on I appreciate it. I had a feeling lol. A 1000 puts me at around 60w/ft2 which is optimal I do believe. Now I was just talking to the company with the parabolic and they're out of stock till about 3 weeks from now.
My options are either open wing or air cooled hood (23"x17").
Heat is not really an issue as I only grow during the winter.

Any thoughts on vertical vs horizontal?

Awesome Renfro, I appreciate it.

Good point on the space issue with the verticals. I train my plants short and bushy but it could still prove to be an issue.

Going to spring on the 1000w.

Edit: Also not sure on yields quite yet as It's a new set up for me, but I think I'll be getting close to 1gpw. First time running DWC but I'm impressed. Will know in about 7-8 weeks from now.
