I just checked the latest polling results and am really surprised. I was going to just vote liberal because I felt NDP didn't stand a chance and wanted my vote to be against a conservative majority. This is going to be a tough decision for me.

Hey Canadians, heres a great essay about the destruction of our once great country under Harpers almost 8 year reign of terror as written by a marijuana activist :http://www.cannabisculture.com/v2/content/stephen-harper-and-end-days-canada-we-know-it

oh and can you imagine what would happen if Obama legally changed "The Government of the United States of America" to "The Obama Government" as Haper changed "The Government of Canada" to "The Harper Government". I think the White HOuse would be on fire right now. WHat an arrogant dick Harper is.

doesnt matter who is there were still goin down hill
I dunno, at least one of the NDP's initiatives was to grow the middle class. Anyone who says that gets my vote automatically. Even if they said they were in favor of just maintaining the middle class (as in just stopping the death) I would vote for them.

As it stands right now there is a party in power in Canada that is more aligned with the radical right wing republican off-shoot Tea Party in the US. Thats just fucking scary. Were talking No Abortion, No fags, No medical marajuana, No marajuana at all actually, No social services, No public Health Care, No Senate reform, No corporate taxes, No ,No, No

BUt LOTS of religion. Lots and lots of religion. Oh and profits for the top 1%, lots of that too.

edit: sorry, by religion I mean Christianity, lots of Christinsanity. Im sorry if I got the muslims or budahs or hindus or sihks etc hopes up.

My local paper which is usually delayed in reporting anything liberal in nature and then diminishing any liberal gains in tone has a story

AP – Prime Minister Stephen Harper gives a thumbs up after speaking in a campaign rally in Stratford, Prince …

By ROB GILLIES, Associated Press Rob Gillies, Associated Press – Mon May 2, 4:16 pm ET
TORONTO – Canadians voted Monday in an election marked by a late leftward surge in opinion polls that could once again deny Conservative Prime Minister Stephen Harper a majority in Parliament and perhaps even end his five years in power.
Harper, who took office in 2006, has won two elections but never with a majority of Parliament's 308 seats, forcing him to rely on the opposition to pass legislation.
Until last week, most polls indicated Canadian voters would give the Conservative government at least another minority mandate and perhaps even a majority.
But recent polls show a late surge for the New Democratic Party, making it one of the country's most unpredictable elections in recent memory.
While the left-center vote could end up splitting between the New Democrats and Liberals, allowing Harper to eke out a majority, if Harper is held to another minority a new scenario has emerged in which the New Democrats and the Liberals together win enough seats to form a New Democrat-led coalition.
"We can change the government. We're not just going to oppose Mr. Harper, we're going to replace him," said New Democrat leader Jack Layton, whose party has socialist roots.
Ekos, a private polling company, gave the Conservatives 34.6 percent, the New Democrats 31.4 per cent and the Liberals 20.4. The pollsters said they questioned 3,268 people with a margin of error of 1.7 percentage points. A series of other polls have reported similar results.
"It's a complete shocker," Nelson Wiseman, a professor at the University of Toronto said of what's been dubbed the "orange wave" of New Democrat support. Orange is the party's color. "It really is quite remarkable. You could never tell in the first weeks that this would happen."

So is this "Left" something of an opposition?

How does this effect the legalization effort in Canada?

Miss me?

Harper wants mandatory prison terms for people growing Cannabis, a lot of people oppose mandatory sentences in Canada, but he (Harper) has been known to make people in his party vote the way he wants them too.

So this need to gain support from the democrat side then will have a moderating effect but still the ax will fall on the neck of cannabis freedom..

I think the USA is really serious about anti-commerce and it's Cannabis Treaties. I see this mandatory minimum as an American Export.

How would a Support private horticulture, use and non-commercial trade effort go in Canada? If it was anti-commerce that is.. In your opinion that is.

Well clearly you A: HAvent been paying attention and
B: know little to nothing about how the Canadian parliment works.

I don't blame you. I didnt pay attention in High School either, but overtime I learned how ignorant I was.

So the NDP did not win enough seats to keep them in check. The Conservatives won a MAJORITY. Which means they have a green light to do whatever the hell they want. The last 6 or so years they were under a MINORITY which means they are held in check by the other parties who have some power. Now those parties have no say, NONE. Even if they get together as a gang they still have NO POWER. No matter what happens 60% of Canadians have abseloutly no say in what happens in parliment.

With regards to your statement about the "other" tories helping to keep the tories in check, please be realistic. Oh and do some research as all the Tories already voted against these issues but it was the opposition that said "go fuck yourself" when they had some power. Look part of Harpers campaign platform was how he would fast track a mega bill full of all the right wing crazy crap that got shot down over the last 4 years if he were given a majority.

Please elaborate on the comment "public health care sucks". I am interested to hear about your international and national knowledge of social medicine.

The general feeling is that its an American export yes. HArper is also opposed to medical marijuana. He has stated it openly and he has force Health Canada to slash the programs funding. That program is now very much in his crosshairs.
On top of that its not just the mandatory minimum 's for 5 plants or more. Its also 1 year minimum for making ice hash (bubble hash). That particular beauty is aimed directly at the medical community as bubble hash is the choice of most elderly patients who ingest or vaporize.

On top of all that a seperate bill will be introduced to deal with the huge influx of regular taxpayers into the prison system. It includes building huge prison complexes and lower living standars for prisoners. Less space per cell, less and smaller gyms, shower, areas libraries etc etc. The tories have refused to give a dollar figure on how much this will cost.
As taxpayers their view is that the cost is just none of our business.
