Watching my friends have trouble finding words

I am noticing more and more that the people I hang out with have trouble finding words - it goes deeper now than not being able to remember that actor who was with "what's his name, you know, they guy that did the thing, you know the thing" (Thanks Lewis Black).

But it is real, and it is normal for people to begin to have such trouble, it doesn't have anything to do with drugs, it doesn't have anything to do with alcohol - at least that I have noticed - it is just that more and more words are misplaced.

But I get a sad kick out of some of these people, not for their inability to find that word but for their consternation, their frustration and sometimes even, sadly their fear.

It occurred to me that all of my years of smoking and taking hallucinogenics have served me well. I lose as many words as any of my friends but having experienced the same thing on a host of drugs "damn, lost my train of thought" or "ah hell, THAT word went back into the ozone" - we would all laugh for a moment or two and either change the broken subject or, as often, actually recover the word, maybe sometimes with help.

but those who DIDN'T do drugs in their youth don't have the advantage of being at ease with the flighty little words and they have yet to make themselves comfortable with this new, less mentally grounded reality that they find themselves visiting more and more regularly.

So - here is another reason pot, and other hallucinogenics are a good thing.

Hey - I just finished watching On Golden Pond with my wife and wanted to have a Montequilla robusto out here in the quiet darkness.

I know what you mean bro!! 100%. But honestly, sometimes I do feel "mine" is from all the years of drug abuse!! Not "marijuana" but "other hard core drugs" such as aalot of "acid" & shrooms!! Other as well, like OC,Girl, etc'!!
I'm not saying that there problem was brought on by "drugs" but I know mine is!! Lol..
And at times it really pisses me off!! Well bro, take er easy.. good post btw.. Later, Dank.

I am not young, and I am not old, but I have noticed an increasing problem with my memory, or mixing words, after six concussions. Protect your head.

I've taken my share of drugs but some people just don't have the ability to retain knowledge.
The older they get the worse it becomes.
I wonder if they even are listening sometimes or where their minds have wondered when I have to repeat things.

Strangley I only have this problem with spoken words, writing never fails me.
Wonder if it has to do with the hemispheres of the brain not connecting as easily as when you are young.
I have an excuse at least... very high cholesterol which chokes parts of the brain by blocking capilaries.

my mom day was having a really hard time finding words and was getting stuff way mixed up. A few hours later she had a siezure and they found the cause of the whole ordeal was a small bleed on her brain. Even since then she gets the weirdest words mixed up sometimes. Nothing major, but just saying weird stuff. Also one thing weird is after her 1st bleed she had a another and I took her to the hospital, and as we were waiting she was looking around and she tells me, the words are all starting to not make sense. and then before long she couldn't even talk, it was jibberish coming out and she seemed to know it was jibberish but she was toally frustrated you could tell. but it was really weird watching that come on slowly, idk scary. She's not an old lady either she was mid 40's at this time. Luckily doctors were able to go in and put a little clamp on the leaky place and she has fully recovered.

I notice that as well, I rarely have a problem finding words with my fingers. Hmm.

REally glad your mom turned out ok - that is some scary scary shit. I watched my father who was a mental giant, a master of logic and communication grow more and more frustrated with his growing inability to comprehend his surroundings - his largest fear was always the loss of his cognition and he was grateful at the prospect of his immediate death. Damn he was smart.

I notice that when people don't get out enough they start losing their words. I feel like the more a person is out an about the less likely this will happen. Public speaking isn't like riding a bike where once you learn how it stays with you. It takes a consistent effort to have a silver tongue. I'm sure that blows to head can have something to do with this, but I don't believe that's what your talking about. I believe it boils down to performance anxiety, the more you perform the less anxiety you feel.
