Water Solenoid question. throw your two cents

Ive asked about heat exchangers(fan chiller) and swamp cooler before with no good results.
So I bought a used 1 fan heat exchanger from my store knowing that it didnt leak. I knew there was a problem with the thermostat and the solenoid was leaking. I paid 200 for it plus a used 10" eco plus axial fan for 45$, i replaced the axial fan with the older fan for noise reduction. It works well.
Now since the solenoid leaks i just removed it and hooked up to water line for constant use. But i put the heat exhanger on a timer and i remember to turn the water off/on. I was wondering if i can hook the solenoid to a power supply like timer to control the solenoid to turn the water on/off? Or do i need a relay??
Do you think the solenoid leaks because the thermostat doesnt open/close it. water runs threw it and out the other end but the solenoid leaks. So im gonna buy a knew selonoid and want to power it with the timer or relay.

check the voltage rating on the solenoid if it is the same as your power source, then you can hook directly to timer, if it is rated 12v 24v or whatever other voltage, you would need a relay that runs both voltages... I am curious about this system of yours, what is the fan chiller? do you have a link for such an item?

it is 220V compressor, I would get a regular 220v/220v relay to run it, I don't like to use the timer to its maximum capacity, but theoretically it could be run straight through your regular 220v timer,
