Hi all. So I jus had a thought. I've not seen my idea anywhere in the forum's so I'll ask.

Would It be a good idea or dumb idea to go use the water chiller as a water fall on a in a solo bucket?

I'm new to this. I've never grown a thing in my life.

This is kinda how mines setup on my control res. I pump water out of my outside res and through my chiller at 500gph and waterfall it back through the top of the lid. It actually happened by accident because I cut my return hose too short but I just left it like that lol.

the only reason for a waterfall is oxygen in the water / use air temp to help cool or heat water

but u have a water chiller this does the temp thing and with the right air stone/air pump the water should be at max retention no need for a waterfall

i can not think of a reason to have both unless u have a under powered airstone or if u are doing a drip ring/dwc combo (that would increase rate of early growth) but that is not really a waterfall since it is going over pebbles/rock wool

Ok. While we talking about waterstones. Would you recommend a 8inch air disc and a 8gpm air pump for a 5 gallon bucket

oh true.. how long was it left like that for. And did you notice a change?

I have something like this. I have airstones in my boxes and a topfeed line thats adjustable up to 40gph per res. I just left the hose like that so I can put the minimum amount of water in my system to keep the top feed pumps circulating and I dont have to run my air pumps. 500gph through a 3/4" hose makes a pretty good splash when it hits the bottom with the water level that low so itll save me from running 220w worth of air pumps for a few of the early weeks. I dont even have to run the chiller with the lights so low, just run the pump through it with it off.

Once I fill the system I can crank the feed lines up and just use it for minor re-circulation. I more or less using a bunch of connected bubble buckets.

You definitely dont need a waterfall if you want to push 8GPM in 1 bucket thats a lot of air to one bucket, most ppl use 1/2 to 1/4 of that.
couple of these and like a 30LPM pump should be plenty for 1 bucket.
These are the most economical ones I could find. I have 24 total in my system lmao.
