Watering enough or not?

Using promix bx and ten gal smart pots with lights on temps at 73-77 and off temps at 58-65 with RH at 30-45%. I've been watering about every five to six days or when lifted pot feel light. Sticking finger in top method won't work as I turn top layer at least twice a light cycle which keeps it dry. Just would like some input a lot of people seem to water twice a week or more. Overall plant health looks great.Watering is four gal each watering with about 3/4 gal run off if that helps.

If your plants look great, then I wouldn't change anything in your current grow. The rest of this post is just FYI, food for thought on your future grows.

I'm currently using 10-gallon Smart Pots as well in an organic grow. My temps are higher than yours (65 lights off, 78 lights on), but my humidity is similar to yours.

My current soil is an organic soil I mixed myself. And it's very airy and drains well (due to lots of added organic rice hulls). When I first put my plants in this mix in 10-gallon smart pots, I was watering every 4 days. Now that my plants are well into flowering, I'm having to water every 3 days.

I've used ProMix BX before (and I added extra perlite), and as I remember, it retained water a lot more than my current mix. I didn't have to water as often with it.

Personally, I much prefer the "quicker" wet-dry cycle I have with my current mix. In fact, it's pretty much impossible to over-water my plants in this mix. That lets me know the roots are getting plenty of oxygen, and I don't mind watering a bit more often.

Thanks for the info was thinking of doing a super soil mix. Next batch I will have to and some P or V wasn't to sure as this is my second run for soil did hydro years ago. Just trying to shorten the learning curve

MJ likes a drought period, I find. It causes the roots to branch out and really search for water in the medium. it is difficult to not want to water as a new grower. Go by weight. Compare a just watered pot against the same size pot with same amount of medium, totally dry. RESIST the urger to rewater when the pot is half full or even a quarter full. The pot should literally fly up when you lift it from lightness. Do Not go by days, it may take 3, 5, 7 or more to completely dry out. Your plant will be fine. If you wait too long, the plant may look a little droopy or sad. Water, and it will quickly rehydrate.

I am with coyote. I mix my own and personally like something with minimal nutes in the soil so I can control what goes in. I buy a cheap potting soil from Ace, Earthgrow brand. No nutes except from the compost in it. I go equal parts with peat, perlite, and vermiculite and then add some lime. Not saying it is optimal, but very airy and seems to work with me well.

Just remember this, less is more. Underwatering is better than overwatering. Marijuana evolved to hot wether and not a lot of rain so it can handle not enough water. Too much water on the other hand is worse than not enough. Correct me if im wrong anyone, but you should put your finger in the soil about 2-3 inches, if its dry then water. If uts wet or still moist, wait another day
