watering with root hormone

Never heard of anyone doing it. There is stuff specifically formulated to promote root growth though, it's just not hormone far as I know.

Just for info, about three weeks ago I transplanted several plants from 3" to 6" pots. About half were put on 12/12, and the others on 20/4. The 20/4 group were watered with a transplant solution and the 12/12 group with a budding solution.
This weekend I transplanted all to 5 gal pots, and the 20/4 group had better roots and growth. IMHO the transplant solution was very benificial.

Don't mess with your plant's hormones: it definitely knows what it's doing and has been good at it for thousands of years.

Speaking from experience where I used high concentration IBA powder, roots grew from the stem and branches of the saplings. That's not too great...

Also, from Wikipedia: "...high concentrations of auxin inhibit root elongation and instead enhance adventitious root formation. Removal of the root tip can lead to inhibition of secondary root formation."

Ie, too much rooting hormone can actually reduce root elongation.
