Watering with soil

When watering with soil is it better to water from the top of soil or put the water in the water tray under the plant?

I always water from the top till I can see some run out in the tray then I knows it's enough water.

i feed it upside down on the side backwards.. doing a 360.. sounds crazy, i know.. but its been the best remedy for my babys..

I water from the top whenever the top 1" of soil is dry. About 1 1/2L per plant about every 3 days. Leave water in a catch basin too long and you risk root-rot. The water in my catch basins evaporates within about 1 1/2 days

thats funny. i think it is more effective if you water the top.
