how many gallons of water does a plant need in a 3 gallon container about a foot tall, weekly??

make sure that your plants dry up a bit between feedings/watering. stick your finger into the medium. if it's fairly dry 2 inches or so down, it's time to water. pick up the container and feel it's weight when it's dry a couple inches down. this will give you a reference point. when it feels that weight again, water again. it takes some practice. it's better to under water than to over-do it.

Thats right,

And when you do water make sure you thoroughly water enough so that you see a few drops coming out of the drainage holes..

Good luck! :)

If you are unsure, use a moisture meter, but make sure to poke the soil enough times to get an accurate reading. I use the lift-the-pot method as well.
