or just check by digging your finger in the soil a tad bit to check dryness. careful because overwatering is the number one plant killer for beginners.

Water your plants until a few drops come out the bottom of your pot. Now you have watered your pots pick them up see how heavy they are? The next time you need to water is when your pot is light once again. If your plants are brand new and seedlings around a week or so before you water them again. Then when they have a few small leaves you will have to start to water once every 3 to 5 days or so.
Another method is to place your finger in the soil about an inch down and see if the soil feels dry. When it feels dry it would be time to water again.
The first method is the most reliable and keeps my ladies watered just right when they are young.
Now as your plants get bigger when to water will be indicated by your plants drooping a little bit.
Then there is always the moisture meter!
