Hi just wondering if anyone can tell me roghly how much hotter a 1000 watt hps bulb would be compared to a 250 watt hps. Thinking of upgrading but it may be more than just the light i need to do up. thanks.

Good question! I'll be following this to see what info you get. I'm getting a 1,000 watt this summer to replace one or two of three 400 watt hps only ballasts. I need one that will take both MH and HPS lamps.

One thing I learned, the third 400 hps unit I bought has the ballast built in. It really sucks because it heats the grow space up much more than it used to. That sucker has to GO!

for my 1000w hps I bought everything needed to cool it for 60 dollars.I dont know but id say its 2 or 3 times hotter then a 250w hps just guessing by the watt increase

cooling isnt that big of a deal if you plan ahead alil bit. ive got 2x1000watt HPS hanging about 1' over my plants cooled by computer fans. but youll run into probs trying to cool a 1000watt MH. i havent found a cool tube or anything else for that matter to cool a MH other than a hood.

thanks pll

Th3bigbad... How many and what size/type comp fans are you using. I have something I can use as a cool tube, Just don't know how much fan power I need(computer fan method).

It is a 6x6 room the gets vented 30 mins on 30 mins off, by a small squirl cage fan, with virtually zero drag as there is only 1 foot of exuast in the system. Runs at 80f 55% constant. Basically curious about fans.

mexi- man i really dont know the exact size. its what was on an old computer's power supply. its about 3" from a tip to the other on the blades is why i used it.( and it was free) i had to make the drier hose fit it, but it wasnt a big deal. i use 2 fans total for cooling the HPS, 1 pulling air in and 1 to pull the air out.a stronger fan would be better, but if you keep the hoses str8 for the most part they will work. i can hold my hand on my cool tubes without burning it, just gets alil warm.

"I have something I can use as a cool tube",,, what exactly do you have?
whatever it is make sure that to will not melt or shatter from the heat if you fans go out.

"Runs at 80f 55% constant" 55% humidity? alil bit on the high side if your flowering. but it might be ok. just be on the look out for mold.

Alright cool I'll try building something, I have a few old comp fans kickin around somewhere to use. been raing here for the whole spring basically, hopefully it slows a bit to bring the humididity down a bit, Or else I will have to buy me a de-humidifier.
