Hello, Grade.

Er, don't know about having something that could be a potential electrical hazard near a source of water unless those pads are manufactured for conditions where moisture is present on and / or around the pad. Even if the setup isn't hydroponic based, it could still be hazardous.

I personally use a little 1,500w space heater in my grow room and it works great. It kicks on when the temperature of the room drops to those lows. It was a little weird at first to adjust it so that the night cycle temperatures aren't warmer than the day cycle's temperatures, but it does the job well enough.

Hopefully you can find a resolution to your temperature issue. Best of luck to you and have a good day.

Hey grade,

i had the same problem as u. i am in UK, growing indoors/outdoors. my grow is in my shed outdoors and its freezing!

i used an elec heater. i got it from www.ebuyer.co.uk it was like 10quid for 1500w. you can set the dial to a temp and when it drops below that temp, the heater will kick in.

so i had to find the possition for lets say 50c and keep the heater at that. then once the temp dropped beflow 50 at night, the heater kicked in.

of course this isnt the ideal situation but hey.... im growing in a shed and my plants are looking ok.

take a look at my grow if u like.

oh and also... ive set my lights to be on at night. so there is a lot of heat from my light at night and then the heater kicks in, in the day time.

hope that helps.

cheers for the input guys, these heaters put out any light at all?? got a halogen one at home but obviously wouldn't work for un-interupted dark cycles.... yeah the lizard heat pads are fully water proof so i guess they would work but wouldn't heat the room so much... you got a link for the type of heater you used?
ATM im overcoming the problem by running my hps 18/6 and a 250CFL 24/7 to keep it hot on the evenings... however im sure im gonna run into problems when it comes to flower.....

cheers for the input

Hello again, Grade.
If the reptile heating pad is safe, I wouldn't mind giving one a try. Technically, they say that you only need to keep the medium "warm" and not necessarily what's above the soil, but I could be wrong and I'd hope others could verify this as fact or false. Where I live up in the NE of the US, it's relatively cold -- not quite as cold as the UK, but still. I dropped the link to the heater I use at the bottom of the post. There's other models that work just as well for cheaper, though.

Another method I employed was having my night cycle during the days so as to take advantage of the ultimate HID / Heater -- the sun. During the night when it's freezing is when they get their 12 hours of light until the next morning; I follow an 8 PM to 8 AM schedule with the timers on both the lighting and the heater. Obviously both mechanisms are on different running schedules; the heater's on during the actual day and the lights are on during the night.

As far as the flowering goes; I believe the cold temperatures around the buds are great -- simulates a more natural flowering environment for many strains, I'd think. Well, under the condition it's not freezing.

Good day and good luck.

this is something like mine.

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/128132

but it looks different / its a different model. they must not do the model i have any more.

mine had a little red LED on the top to show when it was operating. i could just put some tape over that if i wanted but it didnt stop my flowering cycle so no need.

no probs, i was looking for something dirt cheap as well. i think ebuyer will slap on some delivery charge but its not that much.

u have to go to my roll it up. edit options, scroll all way down to bottom and select blzin-07 or something like that. it puts it back to old style, lol i was looking for them the other day.
