[h=1]You all know Dr Tashkin? He's the NIDA Doc that finally fessed up that he's been trying to prove this BS for decades and proved himself wrong!

Smoking Marijuana Does Not Cause Lung Cancer[/h]

New research shows here seems to be something in pot that actually undermines cancer, instead of causing it. -- and the media are doing their best to ignore it.

August 28, 2009 |Editor's Note: There is a groundswell of attention in the news to marijuana's role in causing and preventing various types of cancers. Last week, AlterNet published an article from the Marijuana Policy Project about a new study finding that pot smokers have a lower risk of head and neck cancers than people who don’t smoke pot. Earlier this year, the corporate media pounced on a study suggesting that men who had been using marijuana at least once per week and who had started smoking pot prior to age 18 had an elevated risk of testicular cancer known as nonseminoma, which makes up fewer than half of one percent of all cancer cases among men.Head, neck and testicular cancers are of course quite serious ailments to deal with, but what about cancer of the most obvious organ at risk with pot smoking, the lungs? Where's the science on that? The article below by Fred Gardner, editor of the medical marijuana research quarterly journal O'Shaughnessy's, shares the results of a major medical study the media completely ignored, and his conclusions are quite blunt on the matter: Smoking pot doesn't cause lung cancer. In fact, the study found that cigarette smokers who also smoked marijuana were at a lower risk of contracting lung cancer than tobacco-only smokers.

Smoking Marijuana Does Not Cause Lung Cancer
by Fred Gardner
One in three Americans will be afflicted with cancer, we are told by the government (as if it’s our immutable fate and somehow acceptable). Cancer is the second-leading cause of death in the U.S. and lung cancer the leading killer among cancers.
You’d think it would have been very big news in June 2005 when UCLA medical school professor Donald Tashkin reported that components of marijuana smoke -- although they damage cells in respiratory tissue -- somehow prevent them from becoming malignant. In other words, something in marijuana exerts an anti-cancer effect!
Tashkin has special credibility. He was the lead investigator on studies dating back to the 1970s that identified the components in marijuana smoke that are toxic. It was Tashkin et al. who published photomicrographs showing that marijuana smoke damages cells lining the upper airways. It was the Tashkin lab’s finding that benzpyrene -- a component of tobacco smoke that plays a role in most lung cancers -- is especially prevalent in marijuana smoke. It was Tashkin’s data showing that marijuana smokers are more likely than non-smokers to cough, wheeze, and produce sputum. It continues....

I'm sure the effects of smoking pot inst as harmful as the artificial sweeteners found in 99% of the shit u eat... Unless you eat all organic .. you eat sweeteners, they're in everything.. .. and a lot have been found to give lung tumors to lab mice..
I agree. My experiments with smoking artificial sweeteners were uniformly awful. cn

There are a lot worser things to do for your health anyway, and they are all legal. Cannabis is great so researchers go research something else which is important lol

i think you should look at cannabis the same as you would look at alcohol , you wouldnt down four ltrs of vodka in one session , so dont go over board on the bong hits .

Filtering the smoke through water, by using a water pipe, bubbler, etc... Does not fully remove all of the chemicals that are harmful to your lungs, but does significantly decrease them and lowers the temperature of the smoke, which in my opinion; extremely hot smoke is even more harmful that the chemicals, due to the fact that it will burn and or damage the soft tissues in your lungs.

Of course there are going to be negative affects when inhaling any form of smoke, but the pro's of smoking marijuana greatly outweigh the con's.

Its been too long since I saw the study, so I have no idea where to point you for it, but the safest ways of ingesting is
edibles
vapeing
joints
bongs
pipes
in that order.

There is one thing though that is much more concerning. Cannabis smoke/vapour combats the forming of cancerous tissue by makeing abnormal cells self destruct, IF you use any nicotene (tobaco) with your weed, this function is switched off and it is just as bad as smokeing cigarettes....

mjeh, have asthma, mostly smoked myself through it (rarely notice it, occasionally wheeze tad, but only notice it if its quiet in the room.) (my dad and bro have it too, dad is a nontoker nor smoker. bro smokes mj and cigs, dad has the worst asthma, by far, i dont think my bro notices his anymore.)

also had some lung problems, got swineflu right after i had malaria (tropical adventure.)

smoked myself through it.

And i smoke ganja mixed with tobacco. ;)

plus i know of quite a few 30-40 years smokers..

they are fine, physically..

i wouldnt take too much notice of it.

only time ive heard of guys running into lungproblems because of too much toking, well, this one guy that smoked about 15g a day or more.. and had been doing it for years. (over a decade if i remember correctly.)

though i know of guys that smoke that much and for longer, so maybe this guy just had extra sensitive lungs..

Try Hemp wick dipped in bee wax. Bee wax goes back to ancient times and is known to rejuvenate lung tissue. bongsmilie

Yep, this gets put out there every once and a while. A couple interesting points:

* Although there are several factors identified relating to lung cancer, there has not as of yet been any link made (http://archinte.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=410634). In several studies lung cancer risks were actually shown to decreasewith smoking marijuana (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/04/070417193338.htm)

this is not smoking it. it has those effects if you are eating it.

*vaping and edibles have not yet been shown to have any long-term risks (other than some brain chemistry changes that have not been shown to be unhealthy).

vaping is the same as smoking. while some of the chemicals released in pure smoking are different compared to vaping, the propensity of burning your cilia and putting garbage in your lungs is still there.
