Week 1 AK48 how do they look

[/ATTACH]Using a 400 watt hps so far no nutes 24/7 lights. To me they look a little lacking or am I just too anxious?

What is your water temp? They don't really need that much light right now. You must have it hung really high as you have lots of stretching. You can't put it as low as it should be because the 400 w will heat up the water to much. A smaller light, like a 150 or cfl's would be better for them in this type grow system, until the canopy is big enough to shade the reservour and keep the water cool.
 
Thanks Harry, The temp doesn't seem high, the room temp is high 70s humidity is high40s, I'll put something reflective over the tub to keep res temp lower. They just look a lot smaller and seem to have a lot less leaves than some other plants I've seen here ? PH is low 6s , I was going to wait till after the wkend and change water and try 1/4 nutes. Thanks again for input.
 
I would turn that 400W light off... and switch to CFL's (for Vegging). Pick up some 6500K bulbs, Y splitters and cheap domes. Your electric bill will be much lower too. You can put the CFL's within inches of your plants. They will love it... and wont stretch. I used 6 - 8 100W bulbs for Veggin and my plants were HUGE. (Check out my grow)
Turn the 400W on for flowering and you will be golden.
 
Thanks Shoooot, I was looking for a conversion mh bulb for veging, but for the same price I can get a few cfls (6500k) and rest my hps till flower time ! Thanks for the idea
 
I picked up 6500k 1600 lumen cfls at wallmart. about 8$ for 2. You can keep them so close they grow very tight nodes, nice and bushy. Cfl's are great for vegging imo.
 
When I looked for a cfl there was nothing to denote 6500k, but it did sat 1600 lumens. So would that be the right color spectrum for veging? Thanks for all the input...
 
hey hippy. mine are GE. The box says "daylight 6500k" on the left edge. they are 26 watt. 6500k is the color spectrum, you should be sure they are the right ones. Look for the words daylight, cool natural light, The bar code on the pack is: 43168 85397. GL
 
hey if you lift your lid can you see the light? if so i would paint it black,or tape it up i did:wall: had problems with light getting in

good luck they look good,need the lights closer!
 
Thanks guys, I just picked up 6 6500k bulbs and 3 splitters so now my temp is down and I've got the cfls nice and close, hope to see a big jump in root growth so I can get rid of the bubblers and water pump.. couple months maybe less and I'll switch on the 400 watt and watch the flowers !! be nice to smoke my own grow again !! Thanks again people !!
 
Do NOT get rid of the bubblers they supply the oxygen to the roots however the water pump you dont need after about 2 to 3 weeks. looking good so far i just germed my easyryder(LRxAK47) and am about to put them in there own 5 gallon buckets. Scribing to this thread to see how it goes.
 
Sorry I didn't mean remove the bubblers just the water pump. Did my first water change and went to distilled as my tap water is pretty high ph. Will post a few new pics tomorrow... Thanks

I am growing AK48s too (eight of them), are yours from Nirvana?
My plants are about three weeks old and are in soil. I just replanted four of them into 10 liter buckets and two more to come.
I put two of them directly under 12/12 light (HPS 400W).
Have pictures but have to ask before posting them in your thred right?
I was hoping we could compare and exchange notes? lol
 
Sabzi, Yep there from Nirvana, they all sprouted within 2 days and its now about 38 days from when they poped .I just switched to flowering on sat. They look like their trying to climb out of the closet! I'm down to four plants in the 6 hole tank, I had to move two of them out on there own( runts) and there doing ok in another closet till I can get them big enough to flower. Check them out in my album on" my rollitup" page. Can't wait to start curing and smoking them...I'm also using a 400 w hps its kicken ass !! I havn't grown in dirt since my kids were too little to know what that plant was in the garden !! Just doing my first hydro grow ! amazing how fast they grow I'm using over a gallon a day !! Good luck with your grow let me know how there doing
 
looks good guys...i'm in the same boat...so i'll be watching you and comparing to my own. I'm on week 2 with AK-48 from nirvana, 3 going in DWC from SH.
