weight from rain...will it break my girl?

will limbs withstand heavy rains without breaking? the further along in the season I will get more and heavier rain should I tie the limbs up to the main stem?....or just not worrie about it so far I ave had no problems but now she is getting more density to her flowers and I am wondering if this water weight will maker her break as the limbs are becoming less springy if you will...

It should be OK.

For precautions sake, are you able to shelter the plants?
A fine net screen above the canopy can break/prevent heavy rain on impact, preventing any Armageddon water assault on your girls.

Most mature plant, if not all, in nature are able to withstand heavy rainfall.

if you're able...do a test. make it rain on the plants with a sprinkler or hose, and reinforce/tie up where needed. any weaknesses will showright away. if you repeat this process, a couple times a week, generally in the evening, so the plants can dry before sun hits hard, it will strengthen them and make them able to hold more weight.

Cool thanks for the input this has me nervous because she is all I have... This is my first real attempt and so far I am happy with the results...Which by the way probably would have been nowhere close had I not found this site.....Thanks to all who have replied to my questions...And also for your many informative posts...

Yes, late in blooming, plants can collapse under the added water weight.

You can choose to provide support, or just shake the water out, and tie the branches back up after the storm. I wet my plants down(give them a bath) weekly until the buds begin to tighten up. This helps strengthen the branches to prevent breakage.

I'm in a very dry climate in Central California. Damp conditions will change my advice.

Excellent advice. Wetting the plants in the evening is best until buds begin to tighten. After that, wet them early in the day so moisture doesn't remain too long on the buds.

I could move her under the canopy of trees that she is near and that will probably work but cut her sun I think I can swing the rain test but I will have to do it the hard way b/c cant get a hose to her but so I will just go sit with her and watch what happens.....Damn I feel like an idiot why didn't I think of that thanks folks...much appreciated..

If you can, get some t-posts and put three around each plant. String twine every six inches down the length of the posts to support wet branches. Do it before it rains and ease your worries?

If she's in a pot, just move her to shelter before the storm.

My signature pic is of my chain link cage. The top is 6" remesh. The plants pictured are eight to nine feet tall and completely supported.

I had a huge top,(4', multiple branches) break last year from the first rain.It caught me off gaurd.I lost alot of buds because they wheren't ripe yet.Do your self a favor,and set it up with some T posts like Veggiegardener said.Or build a canopy of some sort for when it rains.You will avoid yourself a real big disapointment:bigjoint:

Thanks vegiegardener I have seen your work(impressed by the way) I have the main stem supported In a way she cant fall just wasn't sure about her limbs I think I have a grip on it now thanks again everyone...

think about it like this. reguardless that this plant (marijuana) is worth so much, its still a weed. it will do w/e it needs to do to survive. the good thing about pot plants is they are very hard to acutally break thoes limbs off. trust me ... iv tried XD. they are how ever very flexable, there for they wont break even if 30mph winds with thunder storm hit them.

I have had plants break large branches from getting really wet. It really sucks. Tie them up really well is the best thing you can do.

it will destroy them. it's happened to me more than once. it sucks to find half your branches in a puddle of mud. do anything and everything you can to protect them. covering them is your best option.

I have had branches give way at the point where they join the main stem, due to the wind and weight of water. So they were still connected to the plant, but drooping down into a puddle. I rigged up a line and tied them up to that - sap was getting through OK - harvest was really unaffected.
