Weird stem issue

Hey i got quite a big plant going in perlite, just switched over to flowering 2 weeks ago but im noticing some weirdness around the base of the stem...

First i noticed a little bit of blackness and assumed it was just algae like there is on perlite but digging deeper under the soil line the stem looks a bit like a raw potato or apple core all raw, is this normal like its just starting to make the area where roots form or do i maybe have some kind of rot eating away at it?

From what i can see its uniformly like that around the whole stem under the soil line and its quite a big plant/thick stem so if it was rot id say it would have fallen over by now..

I water twice daily for 5mins with a feeder ring around the trunk.

sounds like stem rot but without pics who knows and if it is it will break and fall when it gets weight on it excavate some of the media away from the stain and hope it fixes its self

I shall try and get a pic up tomorrow, if it was rot id think itd be black all over tho it only is at the very surface, the weirdness beneath the surface doesnt look rotted or anything just like theres no outer layer skin on the plant.

I was thinking maybe that goes away as the plant was put under more of the perlite as it starts to grow more roots or something, the stem is very very fat at the soil line too, and has places where it looks like its split open a bit because its so fat... i def need to get some pics up :)

Oh PS: other than that the plant is doing perfectly healthy and actually growing too fast for the space its in.

Here are some pics i took with my phone, excuse the quality and bare in mind this is bellow the regular surface line, i have moved some perlite away upto its original rockwool surface.

I threw in a pic of her also, shes 2 weeks into flowering.

the perlite could burn your stem like that if you didn't wash it thoroughly first. i would def. pull everything away from the stem as much as possible to let it breathe.

Yeah ive moved the perlite away, i gave it a bit of a soak when i first put it in but probably not too well.

Ive also turned the hose 150 degrees around so it drips outwards, its dried up pretty good but it does look alayer of the plant skin is missing, and there is some whiteness, looks like sand under a 10x micro. Im not sure if its mold or just the cells repairing yet.

BTW does anyone know if the outside layer will repair it self if its fixed? because it looks like it is going away but im not sure if i should rebury it or not.

if it's not damaged around the entire trunk, then the outer layer will begin to close the wound up again, but not completely. unless she looks like she's already dying, i think you're ok.

Id move the hose away from the stem altogether. Also, I would get some hydroton(orange clay balls) instead of perlite, to be on the safe side. And always make sure you wash the hydroton thoroughly... Its more of a rash than anything. Should be fine.
