as the thread says i made the move from soil to hydro..

the beginning was rocky.. i battled extreme heat issues while doing some maintainence in my grow room.. res temps of over 90F... pump failure.. nute burn.. just seemed one thing after another..

thankfully i've been growing long enough to know whats going on and work on prevention..

now it may sound like its been a shitty change.. but first there is a learning curve with everything.. you can be prepared for everything, but cant prevent it all...

in reality it has been the best move i've made.. or at least i can tell it will be... now that i am getting things dialed in correctly i am able to see what the benefits of the hydro system have been..

growth is amazing... i did a test last night to see vertical growth.. i placed a ruler vetically in a pot and noted where the top of the plant came to.. after less than 12 hours, which was this morning when i woke up, when i checked it had grown an inch... now i think that the girls are getting to the point they are big enough to sustain that growth rate.. but that means they are growing somewhere between 1 to 2 inches a day... or starting too...

and its not just growth rate.. but over all plant health is great... im used to seeing nice green beautiful girls... but these are by far my healthiest looking to date...

im getting ready to go into flowering.. about a week away.. and havent been so excited for flowering since my first grow a few years back... the anticipation of seeing what they produce is driving me nuts... i know it will be beyond my expectations just based on what i've seen thus far from veg growth....

here are some pics of the girls so far... i pretty much had 4 start times for plants (long story) so the over all size of them will vary.. but its the growth between the times i took the pics i want to show.. not over all size..

the first two pics are of my baby matanuska tundra... the first pic was taken 8/17 and the second was taken 8/24.. so a week apart

the next two pics are of a super lemon haze.. the first was taken 8/10 and the second was taken 8/17.. again, a week apart..

the 3rd set is of a bluehash plant.. the first was 8/10 and the second was 8/17...

and the last set is of my strawberry cough.. the first was taken 8/10 and the second was 8/20.. so 10 days apart...

now i know i dont have the biggest plants.. or the best plants.. but it isnt about that... its really just trying to show off how much/fast the plants grow in hydro over a short time.. when they claim that hydro grows 30% quicker its a very true statement...

i'll also include some random pics of my grow... if you are more interested you can check out my journal and see how i got where i'm at right now.. all the shit i've gone through to get here.. and watch the flip.. which starts next week...

anyways.. i hope this helps anyone who was considering making the switch.. or considering hydro.. if you have any questions feel free to post them, pm them, or post in my journal..

Nice looking stuff man.

What's your rez. temp at now?

What's made things easier? or better for you?

Good Luck w/ flowering.

Welcome aboard! I made the switch a few years back and I can't imagine I will ever go back.

Everyone says that it's a difference in taste, but my buds always taste great. The growth is amazing, the systems are incredibly simple and eveyrthing is easier to dial in as long as you have decent meters. I couldn't be happier with my hydro setups. The only real complaint would be that they are TOO simple. Come in every day, lower my PH a little, check my ppm, maybe top up the reservoir and bam I'm done. I don't have to walk around water a bunch of plants, deal with measuring their runoff and all of that. Just put them in a tray, set the pump timers and good to go. Every 2-3 weeks I flush the reservoirs (couldn't be easier) and I'm good to go.

I'll definitely be watching your grow here to see how your first hydro experience ends up.

Great grow! Looks beautiful.

I grow in water, DWC with added feeder tubes and water pump, and it is amazingly fast.

thanks bro.. appriciate the compliment!

i looked into dwc a little.. but went with an ebb and flow... have read extensivley through your stuff tho.. always can find answers were you least expect them...

when i was putting up the divider wall in my grow room (am adding a flower room after this harvest) room temps hit 100+ (super heat wave that week) and my res temps were 90+.. i think i said that maybe... not sure...

i purchased a water chiller and that saved my life!! i have it set at 65F.. my res stays around 67F all the time now.. when it gets really hot outside, like 95+, the res still remains at 75 or below...

the reason i mention outdoors temps with an inside grow is that due to the amount of fresh air i pump into the grow room it usually has the same or near the same ambient temp as the outdoors... so knowing that regardless of the outdoor temp i will have a cool res makes me happy.. i love using fresh air over co2 boosted air..

as far as things that made my life easier pretty much the water cooler has been it.. other wise having a good ph meter and a good ec meter are it.. and some ph down and up.. really tho its a breeze... but keeping the res temp down has made the most impact of anything.. other than the hydro its self..

thanks also in regards to the flowering... bongsmilie

thanks for the welcome aboard!! i am glad to have made the switch... i think starting in soil tho was good for me.. it gave me an opportunity to learn the basics while having that soil buffer as i learned what to look for as far as burn, deficiencies, and all around plant tendencies... i had never grown a thing in my life prior to growing weed.. so it was an adventure..

i've heard some say the hydro tastes different.. i do think soil/organics adds something to the bud.. maybe a little more flavor deepth.. but i dont think its enough to really notice a difference.. at least if you are a good grower.. i have my reservations on this grow still... just because i havent walked that walked yet.. but im sure when i take the first hit of my first hydro grown buds all that "nervousness" will melt away as an incredible high sets in.. :hump::hump:

glad you'll be along for the flowering... should really be interesting.. more so to me... but still, who doesnt love watching fat ass buds form?? gotta love that bud porn..

so i also transferred from SOIL 2 H20 and had great results hope you like the pics :weed::weed::weed::weed::weed::weed:
Sorry of topic...but is your dog my dogs dad? lmao it has the SAME features!!
got a pit too?? i love bruno.. thats his name... 115lb beast of a dog... 3 year old baby.. lol

he is actually going to father his first litter here soon.. the mother is a rot, about his size... should be some bad ass little pups...

you got any pics of yours??

hey bro.. glad to help anyway i can..

first the ebb and flow system i am using is the "ebb and gro" system.. http://www.wormsway.com/detail.aspx?t=prod&sku=EGM200&AC=1

its a 12 site system, but is expandandable up to 48 sites... it comes with everything you need..

the nice things about this system are;

1) the sites are moveable.. well at least you are able to set the sites and run the tubing as you please.. which can give you as much or as little space between pots as you want..

2) the sites are a 2 pot set up.. where the main pot is solid and the inner pot has drain holes.. this comes in handy when you need to move a plant from one site to another.. its making it possible for me to have a seperate veg room and a seperate flower room (which, as i mentioned earlier, wont be set up until i get the funds from this harvest).. i dont know how many other hydro style systems have the ability to move plants easily like this one.. but im sure there are some out there..

if you are only running 1 x 400w light tho, it could be way more than you need..

a dwc system might work just fine..

i use general hydroponic nutes and have had great results... the entire list of what i am using is as follows..

general hydroponics 3 part system (grow, micro, and bloom)
floralicious grow and bloom
kool bloom liquid and dry
floral nectar
diamond nectar
i was using subculture B, but ran out..
and of course i have ph up and down on hand..

i've been playing around with amounts to hit the EC i want... i use a truncheon EC meter which doesnt need calibrating... this is invaluable... as well as a good ph meter...

i also have a water chiller to keep the res temp within range... i said that earlier to i think... it was something i thought about getting in the beginning of the setup but figured i'd wait till later.. but if i knew that i would go through what i did without it, it would have been at the top of my list...

other than that there isnt much to say.. hydro seems like its MUCH easier than it would be if i tried to just start out with it... having the soil as a buffer zone is nice in the beginning of growing... since the effects are much quicker in a hydro environment, things that would negatively affect your plant affect it much faster.. and having that buffer zone is nice.. but i doubt i will ever return to soil.. unless i grow outdoors... and even then i MIGHT consider doing an outdoor green house hydro grow.. not sure yet tho..

alright.. here are a few pics...

today is day 10 of flowering... i tried to get some up close pics of the mini buds already... ill keep posting as they swell up..

i also tried to take a pic of the resin production already taking place on one of the girls... it was actually only a couple days into 12/12 and she was kicking out resin...

i spent a while today and lollipopped them... so im hoping that over the next week or so the flowers really start swelling and i can get some good pics..

sadly i lost 2 girls.. they died without reason... they were smaller plants so im not too sad... but R.I.P super lemon haze and bluehash beauties...

Is that a 400w between those floro's? Are those floro's T5HO's? Sorry if it's already posted, just curious about this lighting setup for flowering.

i have 2 x 400w hps lamps.. wish i had gotten 600's tho..

the floros are actually tt-105 bulbs.. they are sunleaves satellite IV floros.. 4 bulb ballast.. each bulb is 105 watts and puts off 11,000 lumens... 44,000 lumens per ballast... they are actually better than the 400w hps.. im getting better bud production and can keep them closer than the hps...

in total i have 2480ws...

the setup as it is will actually just be for my veg room after this harvest... i am going to set up somewhere between a 3600w and 4800w flower room... i dont know if you can see the door on the left of the pictures.. but on the other side of the room is a 9x7 or so room that i am going to have as my flower room...

HI SS. Thanks for that post it was very informative. I have a couple questions...
At what age did the plant reach its peek of growth rate? you said that they started growing 1-2 inches per day at a certain age so that is why I ask? Do you water them manually? if so, how often do you water them.
Great stuff man, hope to hear an update soon.

the heaviest amount of growth took place after about week 3.. from germination.. so it was after about 2 weeks in the system they started pushing the 1 to 2 inches daily...

the system i use is an ebb and gro system.. its an ebb and flow style hydroponic system.. watering is fully automated.. the only thing i do is change out the reservoir weekly and make sure ph is in range.. the system is set up on timers to flood every 6 hours for 15 minutes...

if you would like to see some more recent results feel free to check my journal.. i am adding new flower pics today (6.5 weeks in)... links below in my sig.. check the last couple pages..
