What are the damn things called!!!

What are those cubes called they are similar to rockwool cubes for cloning but they are kinda harder and absorb the water super fast when you throw them in a bucket of water, anyone know what they are called, my deceased uncle used to get me them now I cant figure out what they are called!!!
 
Jiffy pellets are hard like that but only come in round sizes. Try the 2 inch pellets, they are great for larger clones!

I would use Rapid Rooters before Jiffy Pellets. RRs have a hole made for a stem. For a seed, I flip it upside-down and poke my own hole. (The stem hole is too large/deep for my tastes).

Jiffy's seem to dense/heavy for my tastes. They hold water too much/too long for me. And, the net seems undesireable. I'd like to remove the net, add 40% fine perlite for drainage. Scoop a handful of soil out of the container, and create a seedling bed with that amended/netless Jiffy peat.
 
I use "Root Riot" cubes. If they dry out, dunk them in water and gently squeeze out extra water. You want them damp but not soaked.

Just popped 28/28 seeds with them.
 
Pointed side of seed down and hole side up and your seeds will have a way better chance to survive. Root Riot has tight holes that snug around the seed. Sometimes you have to rip the cube open a little if the plant gets stuck in the hole.
 
Once you remove the netting from a Jiffy pellet it will pretty much dissolve in water. Sounds like you'd be better off with the RR's. Note - I hear you about there being no hole in the J-pellet. But I use that to my advantage. With no pre-drilled hole I can drill out any size I feel is best for each clone. I use 2 main tools for drilling - a short Phillip's s'driver for large stemmed cuttings and a trimmed sliver of hard plastic for smaller cuttings. I've been having great luck using Root-Tech cloning gel. Some gels will harden up and make a deadly seal over the vital liquid uptake tubes. RT works for me.

I have found the RR or jiffy's can't remember which

have recently changed their netting and recently

grew thc bomb auto in a test 1x bomb RR/jify free

the other in the plug

2-3 weeks later the RR/jiffy free, was 7 inches tall

with a good looking tap root, the plug bound one

was struggling like mad to get out of that net

tho it did have 4-6 inch laterals established

the lower roots even the tap

had no chance in the foreseeable future

of emerging, I have cut the base up on a few as a correction to this

but whether I continue working with these easy babes is another story

The cubes I was looking for were the oasis cubes as the first person said, thanks anyways though guys for the input, if you guys haven't tried the oasis out you should give them a whirl, they are my favorite for rooting so far, and I've tried quite a few different methods. they seem to give me the healthiest root system. and healthier plants, not so much yellowing.

are you talking about the 2 week period(approx) after taking the cutting and trying to get roots to grow?
If so, i had this problem for the first couple years of cloning, until i started using clonex starter solution(mild fert)
The difference i`ve seen is like nite and day.
