I'll start by saying that being a total beginner to this world I could and will never find a place more jam packed with a more helpful group of guys. That's done... Now onto why were all here. I live on the... East Coast in a Stone Age state that doesn't allow cultivation. I want to grow and I've researched here about electric bills and odours but I feel I'm missing out in something. Can anyone that's in the east like me shed some light. I'm pumped dinafem's promotion on attitude'a site got me committed. Thanks for all the knowledge guys in advance.

Im on the east coast also. Never had any problems. Keep your light cycle on during the day, when most people use energy.

Just a suggestion, id use another seedbank. Attitudes stuff has been getting popped at customs. There have been a lot of complaints here.

As previously stated, keep your light cycle on during the day as that's when the most power is used. Are you doing a small home grow or are you looking to run a 1k+ kw? I wouldn't use attitude, they overcharge and people have been getting their packages confiscated by customs. Herbies is a much better option. I've ordered through them for years and haven't ever had one get confiscated by customs. One was lost in the mail though but herbies sent another right out free of charge.

Plans are for an ebb and flow system as of right now. I was going to go led but they're out of my price range for a good one. Ive decided on a 600w hps. Going to try and go perpetual to get some smoke every 3-5 weeks. I have a decent size space and for the exact "grow area" where the system is to go is 4x4x8. Perfect for a 600w, no? Also have a 3x2.5x8 space for my veg area. Plans for this area include a light that runs 24/7. Any problems with that? Nothing major guys, just want to be more in tune with what's going into my smoke. Tired of fake names. Most of all tired of watching you guys grow monster nugs and I have none of my own to post.

If you're a beginner, don't do ebb and flow, don't do perpetual, do a nice simple grow in soil. Hydroponics isn't as easy as you think. The plant can die shockingly fast if something goes wrong.

Not gonna happen. I live in a hot area. Whats this kid doing bring all this damn dirt into his apartment for? He doesn't plant… hell we don't even have grass growing around here. There is no way to get bags of soil in and out of my apartment without someone seeing, suspecting or notifying. Soil to me is old fashioned and out dated best suited for growers with Cali like weather imo. Call me ignorant but I've never wanted to do it because of a few reasons. 1. I have had organic vegetables and fruit as well as over fertilized… know the difference? Price thats it. With that being said I don't believe in waiting 4-6 for 100 grams so thats out.

ok so start off with a simple hydroponics setup like a waterfarm. Can't get much easier than that. I really think it would be a huge waste of time/money to grow multiple plants your first time in hydro. That's just asking for disaster.

I understand you. Thanks for the wisdom. Seeing how long you've been providing help to riu I know you know your stuff. Seen your fair share of the over ambitious beginner. As faras the waterfarm goes I understand your reasoning. the amount of plants that I will be growing it is more efficiently to go ebb or drip. I'm not against drip system just want to go tabled and not PVC. Gonna start 4-8 seeds when they come in and another 4-8 seeds 28-35 days after.

Pay your electric bill on time, who gives a flying fuck how many watts you use. Electric companies dont fucking care, just pay them.

When I did alot of welding in the garage, and had 4 window ACs running in the summer when i wasnt growing, i never thought " hmmmm, i better not run the 4th AC, the electric co is gonna be mad!"

First it's always critical in any black market venture that one buy off the cops. I suggest dressing up like Mr. T and rolling into a local precinct with your growers manifesto and a phat wad of hundo's to get the attention of the bad bacon in charge of taking bribes.

They're going to make it look good for the civilian audience so play along. ;) Once in the "interrogation room", easily recognized by the one way mirror and blood stains on the masonry, you may begin to better present your business terms and apply payment for their assistance in handling this matter with utmost discretion.

Note that proper presentation of a firearm or sharp object shows your a serious business man with significant importance in local community.

Before your meeting concludes, always be sure to get something in writing detailing the negotiated terms. :o

You are absolutely right. I never even thought of it that way. Ppl get so caught up in not getting caught we overlook the obvious. Now I can see why everyone in illegal territory runs during the day. So I should not fear running a little 250W MH & 600W HPS. The MH is for my veg is going to run 24 straight and the HPS for 12 hr flowering cycle.

^^^Snaps you read my mind,lol.

One 600w, a couple fans, pumps, etc. isnt' going to increase your bill THAT much unless you live in a tiny apartment and your electric bill is less then $100.00(or your electric is really expensive).

If you live in the US they don't fly over and check for "hot spots" either, that is a myth. They do fly and check for outdoor crops but thats it. In parts of the world where they do fly they are checking for multiple hot spots, like a big grow with the obvious infared pattern of multiple lights set up. I can imagine it's pretty easy to spot from up in a copter.

My electric bill can be as high as $300-$500(I know, yikes)/month, and that's before I added any grow equipment. It still fluctuates but the $70.00/month my set up costs me to run is negligible. It certaintly wouldn't tip anyone off to suspicious use.

I would be more concearned with pigs going through my trash(which they are allowed to do, and have done in the US after they took liscense plate numbers visiting hydro shops). Just be smart. I don't throw anything away on my property or in my trash cans. I bring stuff in through the back door, usually after 8:00pm and after I give a quick look see to make sure no neighboors are around.

IN MY EXPERIENCE, people get caught because of SMELL and LOOSE LIPS more then anything else.

Dude, I'm not the one on a public forum requesting security related information surrounding illegal ventures.

Lighten up, good skill to have in prison. ;)

Thanks for the good info Squid. Really appreciate it. So a 250w MH running 24/7 and a 600w HPS running 12 hrs is ok? Not at all worried about paying the bill. I pay around 15 a month now so a 100$ increase is cool. Just was thinking they see a jump and go crazy. Also was planning on keeping my closest a closed space. Anyone think an A/C and Carbon Filter/Fan combo can control a room thats L-shaped. the dimensions are 4X5.5X8 + 3X2.5X8

My purpose? Merely comic relief / continuity depending on your perspective.

Don't let me slow your roll. :/

My best advice to you for your security is to move.

Having lived in a state where illegality and close mindedness were status quo, I would never tell someone to grow risking prison sentence when simply moving can eliminate all fear of producing your medicinal needs.

As soon as Colorado legalized my ass was renting a box truck and headed west.

You want my security advice? Fucking move!

:)

You want my comic relief, keep doing what your doing, time permitting I will oblige.

Snaps! May I ask what you did before it was legal in Colorado?
If it was something illegal, please stop trolling.
LilT211, good luck to you bro! Keep us posted!

Thing is, it IS legal here. Best security advice is to move. Costs less than a lawyer.

I understand where you're going snaps. It's frustrating knowing that just a couple hundred miles away its legal but here it's not... in the same damn country. We have troops fighting to keep us free, if anything let them decide not some gray haired idiot that smokes his damn self. Its weed not heroin. Since all this reform stuff started i have smoked some of the sorriest excuses for "top shelf" weed I have ever seen. Gotta put an end to this immediately. Back to my grow tho. When i started this thread i thought it was the electric company was the man to beat but now I'm worried about controlling the air/odor in my grow space. Any suggestions? as stated earlier the space is enclosed.

We would recommend only running your veg room 18/6 or 20/4 as there is little to no value in running 24/day beyond the first 2 or 3 weeks, it cost more for electricity and needlessly consumes the bulb's lifespan.
If you really have your heart set of hydro, why not try a hempy, as it's easy and forgiving, KISS and learn to dial in your environment
Dr. Jekyll

Nice setup but how are you going to vent outside if you live in an apartment?
do you have plans for a carbon filter to control the smell?
