What can you learn from the outside of a seed?

I have 4 different types of bagseed and they look different. Some are big and fat seeds, some are small. Some have uniform color and some have stripes and swirls. Some have dark and some have light coloration.

Is there a way to tell sex and or strain type? (Indica or Sativa dominant)

I have grown 4-5 plants from seed, but never documented the size and coloration of the seed to go back and compare the end plant to.

Any help would be welcome! Thanks

as far as i know the only thing you might be able accurately determine is its maturity (smaller lighter ones are probably younger, fatter striped older). Once again though, that doesn't necessarily influence viability, it just 'can'.

I have noticed the same thing,so what Im doing is I have marked them, spotted and plain,so far the germination rate is even but 1 of the plain seeds poped but it has no leafs its just a stub?one of the spotted seeds poped but streatched about 2 inches and looks weak the rest should be poping in a few days,I just want to see if there is any difference in spotted seeds compaired to plain seeds.

you cant realy tell anything why dont you have them all together?

I have them separated because I got them at different times and I noted the type of high the bud I picked them out of was. I also have written the sexes that I have grown from each source as well as the strain discription as it matured.

nope, unless you know the plant it came from. bottom line, you truly cant tell anything about a seed by its appearance, except for the rare case of maturity. and even then, like i said, it doesn't necessarily determine viability either.

the shape, size, color of the seed are really just genetic characteristics of the strain.
and its quite hard to tell a strain by the bean, imho
