If you go into the newbie section there is alot of different ways people have done there's that you can go see. Alot of it depends on how much you are willing to spend and how big of and area you are trying to cover. Personally if you budget it right you can make a set up on very little cost. Especially if you know people who have things that you can use for it, it doesn't necessarily have to be specifically for growing but if it works for it then why not right?

I'd say for a closet at least 400 watt you should be able to grow 4 big plants or a hole shit load of smaller ones in SOG

$150 magnetic ballast 1k watt
$190 on vent fans
$100 for carbon filter(for smell)
$120-250 for hood
$50 on room fans
$50 for pro mix soil
$20-30 on pots
$100-200 on nutes depends on your brand
hope that helps Pe@ce.

I would like to harvest around 2-3lbs pergrow but for now I think I will just throw my clones outside. An researh a little more before i start my indoor grow. Even though it is late in the season for my area I can still salvage something. Thank you again for everyones time and info.

That $1000 shopping list is scary! For a basic grow, follow the DIY CFL guide here and get yourself a 250w HPS for a closet. If you do it right, you should be able to pull down more than 1 gram per watt. Start an Al B Fuct SCRoG, and you'll have over a Half LB every 2 weeks. A 400 dollar budget should get you your results with money to spare. People forget that Marijuana is a weed and is actually REALLY easy to grow. It's not rocket science unless you want it to be.

maybe go for some t5's. Ive seen people do good with the right style. Hydro farms has 1,4,6 and 8 bulb fixture with bulbs included. I got a 6 bulb fixture for like 200$ i use for veg. IMO I belive cfls are garbage.

i use a bare bones hydro setup with stuff I found around the house/in the recycling bin and CFL lighting... perfect for a cheap DIY

he said 2-3 LB yield first harvest you would need more than 1 grand to do that just starting no equipment. i started on CFL's in 2008, 1k HPS's since '09. its worth the money on the initial investmant.
out

1 lb per 1k light.

CFL's are nice, good quality but no yeild. only for headstashers. unless they want to move lights everyday. thats allot of light and work for a big CFL op. Pe@ce.

Definitely no yield for CFL, but they are good for Veg. It also depends on your style of growing. I suppose that's what it all boils down to is preference of style... Me? I'm a 30 plant SCRoGin' LED guy waiting for the money. The OP might be a HID guy who wants 5 5ft tall monsters at a time to drop mondo-yields. If that's the case, OP, get yourself a much bigger closet, a 400w MH, a 1000w HPS, a 6" inline fan with a scrubber, about $200 in beans, soil and amendments, and a whole lot of patience.
