and the light does this

The plants have been on 12/12 for exactly a month now, I was hoping for the stretch to stop a bit earlier than this but it hasn't, a friend came by to check on them and moved the light 4 days ago and they still managed to grow another 4 inches in 4 days so today I found them touching the light.

The plant is a mexican sativa so it's supposed to grow big.
I was hoping to be able to kind of keep her small by forcing flowering fairly early but it's clearly not working :(
Ah and before you tell me off, unfortunately I was away while the plants stretched so I couldn't move the light.

So, what do you guys suggest?

should I top? should I bend? what should I do?

carefully bend em over and tie em off

If that's an HID light, I'm surprised they haven't ignited

First thing is to always anticipate your finished height so if you know you have 4 feet from the container to 8 inhes below the lights highest level then you gotta make sure to veg only a very short time.Plants always minimal double or triple and satives even more.Id pull the shelf out look like it should be easy remove and will give enough height or you need to get an seal glass lnes and air cooled reflector

FF, is that about the distance you shoot for in general, 8"? I know the wattage makes a difference, how about a 600W?

unfortunately the shelf is built into the closet and the flat is not mine so no cutting, I can however get rid of the clothes railings which should give me another 4 inches or so.

I think I will try and bend them over, what do you think about the burnt tops? should I prune them?

the HID is only a 250w so luckily it didn't ignite. I can get my hand very close to the light without burning.

YOu don't have to be gently with it, bend it twist it tie it. It wil start sending shoots up from the branches you bend. Now you know why satavis are not good for indoor grows. Reminds me of my first grow. lol. I had some that were too high for my 10' ceilings. VV

Yeah I keep about 8-12 inches away little further when first getting them under but close as I can during flower to keep buds tight. I use the tried and true back of the hand method. Place your hand back of it up at top of plants then lower light til its just uncomfortable hot then up 1 inch.

Thanks FF. Helps with my initial setup and how much flex vent tube to allow.
