what does licensing a product actually do for me ?

ok people iv some ideas etc etc .......... To cut a long story short iv heard you can license an idea/invention and sell it to bigger brand names if they like the idea.

anyone care to help me get a simpler understanding of this ?

im a registered company and have permission from growth technology to use and advertise Any of their products with ours if this helps :)

Licensing is getting patents and sell your patent right to big manufacturers.

Like you made something that went into cars. Patent it and sell it to the cars manufacturer. You just get a check in the mail because you own the patents.

Songs are licensed out for commercials.

No, intellectual property is a term to describe possession of the idea. You must register said intellectual property with the patent office, to legally 'own' the idea. Once you have the patent then you 'sell' the property rights (intangible property).

can i just patent an idea without a prototype i.e plans and measurements etc

I believe you have to record the idea on a computer file of a certain size in a specific format type ( not sure what ). It has to be an original idea.

there's no others on the shelf and when we have dimensions i can get my cousin to do a cad drawing, i think the files ssl or something?? Idk

so we don't need a prototype?

whether you need a prototype or not is dependent on the idea and direction you want to go with the idea. Do you have to have a prototype to get a patent? No.

first thing i would do is do start the survey of whether there is an existing claim on file, and a competition/ feasibilty, risk /reward type study. Patent Office actually has a good search engine, good luck,

Oh, draw up a non disclosure document and actually utilize them, so you can talk to people more openly.
